Anyone have both the PCR-1000 and PCR-1500? Does the PCR-1500 software work with the PCR-1000? Also does any Icom site have the PCR-1500 software posted yet like they do for the PCR-1000?

The software for the PCR-1000 communicates with the radio through a RS232 serial port. The software for the PCR-1500 communicates with the radio through a USB port. As a result, they will only work with the radios it was intended for.

I may have to retrack my previous statement. Now that I have my PCR-1500, it appears the USB port on the radio may in fact be an internal USB-to-Serial adapter! The software USB port setup is interpreting it as COM-4 (which is a serial port). So the new software may work with the PCR-1000.

It should be noted however that the sound recording abilities of the new software, acquire the audio though the USB cable, so it's pretty safe to assume that feature in the new software would not work, if the radio was connected to a serial port. Of course there are workarounds for that.

Could you give some more details about the "internal USB to serial adaptor"? could it be bypassed so that we could use RS 232 instead of USB? Can 2 or more 1500's be connected to a single PC on a USB bus and controled with custom software? Does anyone have a command list/ USB communications manual for the 1500 so that we could write custom software?

I have no such details regarding the USB port. That was just an assumption of mine. You would probably need to obtain a service manual, or the schematic at the very least. Same for the Icom command list...have you tried contacting Icom? They must license it, as TalkPCR was developed for the PCR-1000...or did he reverse engineer the command list?

Last year one of my friends tried to get software/ programming manual from ICOM for the 1000. He said that they would not give that information. We later found it posted on a website and were able to write our own custom control software for it. We are planning to do the same for the 1500. i wasw just hoping not to have to resort to reverse enginnering it!

Well the one that was posted up was probably "reversed engineered". It's not hard, just find a free Serial Port snooper. I did it with my PCR-100. Works a charm.

Yes, all those packages like TalkPCR relied on reverse engineered command lists. Icom won't licence it. Odd choice to make but they must have what they think are good reasons.

Looks like someone will have to reverse engineer it. Does anyone have any ICOM PCR-1000 that they wish to sell? we need a few of them and prefer un-blocked, but will consider others. If so, please reply to bill@teamkingsley.com
