PG County Undocumented Talkgroups

Wow, that's lousy. Uniden screwed that up it seems. Someone else told me just the opposite in another thread.

On these bcd436 scanners, do TG's not in the radio reference database still be heard when scanning a system? For example, lets say I program it based on my zip code just to get it up and running and my local County Police happens to add a couple more talkgroups to their frequency system, would I still hear those transmissions? Would the display show the TG, but just unlabled?

They will display the TGID and Unknown and be heard if the ID Search setting is set to On for the system.

Oh ok. I would assume that would be the default setting anyway, but I will of course double check once I get the nee scanner. I am trying to learn all about it first, while saving up for the scanner.

If it's not in the DB then it won't be in the scan list. I'm not sure how that is Uniden's problem.


Also, I've thought about adding some new talk groups that I've found but I don't think that I will. I did overhear some PD ops on an undocumented TG. I don't think that it would be right to add those to the DB at this point.

Well, the current old analog scanner I own now can still pick up everything within a Trunked System (it simply picks up every transmission made). Furthermore, someone sent me a PM and further explained it to me. Supposedly the bcd436 CAN pick up every transmission within a system (even tgs not in the database) IF it is set to scan with the ID search set to ON for each system you would like to hear any TG that may not be in the db. However, I would imagine that this would take it much longer to scan. I could be wrong though. Perhaps the scanning speed is ultra fast regardless.
