Does anyone know what the purpose is for 8A16? The only activity I ever seen to see on it appears to be a patch which is either tied to 8A1 (or maybe 8A2).

I assume 8A16 is just another "routine" call talkgroup should it be needed.

I'm mostly curious about the reason for the patch from time to time.

that is correct it is the same as 8A1,that is in case a firefighter goes down, that person can switch all the way to the right or left and get a dispatcher.

tbccfc2 is correct about the reason, but talkgroup 8A2, 8C2, 8A16 and 8C16 are all the same talkgroup. A2 and C2 are called OPS1 and A16 and C16 are called OPS2 because of a programming issue that they have to be called a different name.
