The Philly PD Citywide site is basically quiet so what scanning are we supposed to be discussing?

I'm glad that the feed provider in Cleveland wasn't what you call "Responsible." Because I mainly check out the Ohio Forum and am not submitting over 7,000 posts, I admit that I was unaware of the names of the Radio Reference hierarchy but then I do have a life. Finally, citing the freedom of the press for the media relates to the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution which is the law of the land not what you call politics.

Looks like now Citywide police feed is offline. The feed provider must be having major problems before it went offline because J-band is normally much busier than what is going over the feed.

You know the feed provider provides an awesome service to the scanner community, and if I were him I would be disgusted with all of the complainers. He provides 10 feeds for every major police talk group on the Philly P25 trunked radio system. That's a lot of scanners and bandwidth people. He is a volunteer. Its sad to see people complain when they get the service for free. One of the reasons I stopped providing feeds is because all of the complaints.

Well said, Joe.
As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. I've had folks complaining about the North Fire feed on Broadcastify for months and months. I tell them to part with the coffee money required to buy a subscription to Philly Fire Feed so they can hear good quality audio without delay. But, what do I know, right? lol

As for the DNC comms, so far t's not very impressive, guys. You're aren't missing anything. For the most part the protesters are even being pretty well behaved. Just comm after comm about batteries and water...

As Dan said plenty of activity but not much interesting stuff. It got a little interesting last night when a few protesters tried jumping the perimeter fence at the Wells Fargo Center but other than that not much more than what's been stated.

Didn't pay much attention to the radio ID's in use but did catch one that was 6xxxxx on J or T band. Did indeed hear some outside agencies on those bands as well with identifiers I never heard before and at least one unit that wasn't quite familiar with PPD lingo (he seem confused by the term "highway").

Without going into specifics, there are plenty of PPD radio IDs that are 6xxxxx. Typicaly the higher ranking officers.

I know I am late to this thread, but the city received a few thousand Motorola APX6000 radios that were distributed to every officer working a DNC assignment. Best I could tell the new radio ids all started with a 6, so they were not just for high ranking officers.

Most of the apxs were required to be returned within a week after the DNC (broadcast on j-band) but I am still currently seeing some 6xxxxx IDs in use, mainly CI units, seems like they are keeping the apx6000s? And correct me if im wrong, but there are plenty of 6xxxx 5-digit IDs, always have been and they have nothing to do with apx.

The APXs were turned in to be reprogrammed and the word is each officer may be issued a radio. Captains and above were already issued new APXs. From what I have seen each new make of radio gets a new prefix. First there were 76XXXX, then 86XXXX and others in between. Now 60XXXX. I guess they have a reason for how they ID them.
