Hi Rich
Just got back

The numbers you see on the vehicles are Property Numbers.. They are assigned to ALL city owned vehicles for inventory ect.. They for the most part on vehicles start with the Year it was purchased, they start with the first 2 digits. Example 23****
The 6 digit RIDS are exclusive to PD
All for the most part use 5 digit RIDS so far.

Thanks Tom!

It was just a wild guess.

When you get a chance, check your email and let me know when would be good. I had a good couple of days, but had a really bad episode overnight. Faye was able to get me into bed, which is where I spent most of the day. I'm still waiting for the blood work that Penn did to come back from the Mayo Clinic.

Take care

Sorry folks, I just realized that I didn't send a PM to Tom and posted the message here.

You can resume your normally scheduled programming...

Over the weekend:

4019 - That's SEPTA - I worked there long enough to know that "check" is everyone else's equivalent of "10-4". They were talking about Snyder on the BSL and waiting for the next train. RID was 10257. They said that they were going to "10" (channel 10). Don't know what channel 10 is or was way back when. Could be the BSL channel or ? Don't have a 102xx RID listing, so I will add it to the Wiki.

Will definitely keep an eye on that one.

There were 46:42 of recordings on PPD Events 1, TGID 31 on 6/14 from 08:25 to 20:58. Consoles 9160, 9161 & 9162 were in use.

31 - RID: 600097 "HIGHWAY 1"
31 - RID: 600102 "CHARLIE 100"
31 - RID: 8218 "PSP"

Other Stuff:

4065 ENC - RID: N/A
4071 ENC - RID: 603739
31 - RID: 53109 "TAC AIR"
451 ENC - RID: 26225, 26229, 26218, 26222, 26380
1555 ENC - RID: 26090, 26111, 26121, 26351, 26356

Channel 10 is Septa pd analog channel
Channel 12 is their maintenance channel/Norristown High Speed Line
Channel 13 is Broad Street Line
Channel 14 is Market Frankford Line

Septa Pd had their own TG on Philly's System but went back to their analog channel because of coverage issues down in the Regional Rail Stations, Suburban Station and Jefferson Station.
Septa Pd has a handful of Tac channels on Philly's system, this 4019 must be one of them. FIFA soccer games were going on down at the stadium this past week, im sure Septa PD has a police detail down there.

Once you mentioned channels 13 & 14, it all came back to me. We're talking mid 1980s to the mid 1990s.

Depending on our assignment, we used GE Ericsson M-PA handheld radios on the UHF band when assigned to the revenue trains, to talk directly to the train dispatchers.

When assigned to the revenue trucks, we used Motorola Motracs mounted in the truck to talk to the control center. They were VHF Lo band, I think around 31 MHz. No handheld VHF Lo radios at the time.

Other communications were done directly by telephone from either the cashier booths or districts to the control center.

You mean to tell me that they are still using the same channel numbering system??

I'm guessing just with newer radios. I'm going to have to take a look at the SEPTA TRS & Wiki pages.

Also, we're moving this week, so my all of my recordings will be shut down for a bit until I get everything set back up. Hopefully, less than a week.

Sorry for the reminiscing, but @PhillyPete jogged my memory...

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...

I love hearing stories.
You mean like about the rats in the subway that were bigger than our dog?

Since we were ahead of the trash train, you had to kick all of the trash bags before you entered each station.

Or the "if you didn't have a gun, I'd kick your ass" from the locals at Kensington & Somerset?

Good times, good times!

Don't get Tom started. I'm sure that he's got a bunch...
