I am catching up on my pleasure reading, being stuck in place, not my choice.

Piscataway a single site TRS is getting a facelift. An FCC grant for and additional site
and new 700 frequencies for all TRS sites.

Looks like it will be near or on the Amazon warehouse.

I suspect this will be the end of the 500MHZ frequencies in use today (I will not get up on my soapbox) but just add this to the growing list.

If that is the case, yet another department throwing out APX 7000 radios. As per usual, 7/800 never crossed their minds- just UHF and VHF (thankfully).

wondering if this is also to help with mutual aid as most neighboring towns are on the county 7/800 TRS or if there will be any intergration with the county system.
the address listed on the application for the second site is actually their training grounds just off possumtown/cedar ave

Mutual aid means nothing unless the E, or the current policies around the E, go away. Piscataway does not share unless you drink their Kool-Aid. JFK did not get radios to work with Piscataway once the contract went in; instead, JFK had to give Piscataway access to their end of the NJICS with their Harris radios installed at each of the 9-1-1 center consoles.

If they're also looking to get out of T-Band land, so be it. But I'm not buying the greater good argument unless there will be access from the county system inward.

agreed, the whole encrypting every agency is a bit much to me and does make it that much more challenging to interop with. i believe it took us some time to get the 2 portables on our rig programmed with their encryption

You will scratch your head if you look closely at a streaming service. So why even bother. Makes no sense unless someone stole a radio.

the only answer i’ve ever heard for being encrypted but having the streaming is they can take the stream down if they need to, but as long as i’ve been listening to it they’ve never taken it down

The mayor got really angry when asked why they aren't just joining the Middlesex county system or NJICS.

middlesex county system would be optimal for mutual aid purposes, if they went there one radio would work for more out of town M/A instead of needing at least 2 every time i go out of town, but with the 700/800 license and second site build on their fire academy, they put in for i don’t think that’s going to happen

My guess is Middlesex/NJICS wouldn't let them go fully encrypted like they are now, so they want nothing to do with it.

Aye.

Regarding your September post about the encryption on both Middlesex and NJICS: I can see that Middlesex would not allow them to encrypt in full anything beyond Police, but perhaps permit a partial on EMS (even though that's practically dead since JFK does all their work over NJICS; taking the existence of the EMS TG for face value). However, NJICS has municipalities with Police, Fire, and DPW TGs which are fully encrypted. Are you aware of any formal stipulations which would prohibit further encryption to the extent of mirroring Piscataway today onto NJICS? Not just for Piscataway, but systemically.

I have no actual knowledge, just seems weird they'd spend all that money w/o a good reason... although I guess I'm not really surprised.

Where do you get your information from? Middlesex County has NO limitations on encryption. Be it by Town/District or Department. Its up to the end users who make there decisions and purchases.

Empirical evidence. However, I inquired if someone had more concrete information from official sources that can supersede what I have. Since you read through my post, proofread your own, and still brought nothing better to the table in answering the question, to the benchwarmer position you go.

So here is your benchwarmer! I maintain the Middlesex County P25 Public Safety TRS. It is a well managed system by the county representatives.
Anyone who wants to post bogus information should fact check before hitting submit. And... if you want to fact check me, look at all my postings in reference to the system and you will see there is no BS from me.

If anyone has a fair or honest question Ill answer it.

There it is, pertinent information that did not need to be withheld. Remember, this is RadioReference, not RadioFacts. This is a reference point to begin, and expound upon inquisition and receive guidance and feedback toward a solution, which is why I posted it as a question, not a bold statement. However, the bragging about how it is "a well-managed system by the county representatives" and the "you will see there is no BS from me" assertion is unnecessary if your work can show it.

With that aside, I would like you to enlighten me on the official sysadmin stance on encryption for the system, which is what I asked for in the first place. Present it in a professional manner, and I will certainly give a fair opportunity to hear your articulation, and also potentially help the other participants who would like to get more information. And, if you are able to identify more key points on the Piscataway situation with regards to their interest/disinterest in the Middlesex County TRS from your position, power to you.

Did Piscataway talk to you about using the Middlesex county system?

@X9009X I can’t pass that up. Softball. Any idea if the Spen1 TG will return. It has been dropped for quite a number of weeks. Lastly, has New Dover Rd been built out yet. TIA!
