I have been listening to the Pittsburg PD on my scanner for many years. All of a sudden the Channel went dead. I thought is was mt scanner but from time to time i hear a dead key on the frequency. They were on 460.3750 and i believe they have upgraded the radios. Does anyone know of the new frequencies or know of a resource i can use to find out the new freq they went to?

Thank you in advance

Yes, they have moved to East Bay Regional Communications System. To continue monitoring them, you will need a digital capable trunking scanner (which cost around $500 new).

I'm new to this forum and I just bought a Uniden BCD396XT. Is this thing capable of receiving East Bay Regional Communications System? What frequency would the Pittsburg police be on as there seems to be several listed. Thanks.

eBay is the way to go, but steer clear of the Pro-96 (which is probably the cheapest digital scanner to come by these days) will NOT work on any 700 MHz sites. I have a Pro-96 and it's a great scanner even today, but it won't handle the 700 MHz half of EBRCS. I also recommend you guys read the two stickied EBRCS threads in the San Francisco Bay Area sub-forum if you have time, which will answer a lot of questions about the new system. Good luck!

If you just want to listen to Pittsburg, you will need to program a new P25 system and enter the freqs for the the Contra Costa County East site.

P25 System

Does your scanner have a "manual?"

Yes, my Uniden BCD396XLT scanner did come with a manual. If I can only find it. But there is an online manual. Thanks for asking as I left the batteries in it which is a mortal sin. Is P25 system a program that is downloaded from a site? What is EBRCS? I used to listen to PPD.

fyi: I understand that the 396XLT is not user friendly more difficult to program. The Home Patrol 1 and Home Patrol 2 which was just released are suppose to be the east scanners to program since they are pre program scanners. The other scanners like 436/536 have Home Patrol feature in them.

Same thing happened to me used to be 460.375 and 460.175. Antioch is still 154.845? as I still pick them up on the old channel. Animal Control went digital.
Now I got a BCD 436 and I get them along with the fire dept. and EMS. Uniden has Home Patrol 2 just released or BCD 536. You might also check into those new Whistler scanners once they are released. I have to buy 2 more scanners, one for car and one for home so I will be watching to see what Whistler releases.

Help

I looked at the frequencies on the EBRCS page referred to above and I programmed my 396XLT to respond to the frequency used by the Pittsburg police but I'm getting only half the conversation. Usually it's the sheriff dispatch and the officer but I just get the officer plus interference from some other transmission. The difference between analog and digital, in my experience, is that digital receives more frequencies. My problem is that if I do not use my 396XLT every day I have to research the functions all over again. This is due in part to the fact that I do not know how to resolve my issue of "uniplex" reception. Duplex is two transmissions simultaneously. The 396XLT is easy enough to use and I'm a blockhead. There are Yahoo forums devoted to this very scanner and the scanner retailer advertised in RRdotcom has rewritten the instruction manual for the 396XLT which simplifies things. My 396XLT came with a dvd with the manual on it. The unfortunate thing is that the Uniden 396XLT is expensive but used ones can be bought. Believe it or not the 396XLT isn't difficult to use. A good scanner antenna mounted on the roof helps with reception tremendously. What made me ready for the straight jacket was my Icom brand scanner. But you just have to sit down and study the manual and write a list of what questions are unanswered. Sure you'll get a headache and tears of frustration may trickle down your cheeks but don't give up. I have too many irons in the fire and too many unfinished projects.

So the BCD436 picks up pittsburg ... Self programming?

If you're looking to just put in your zip code and monitor the channels around that them I'd go with the Home Patrol. Already pre programmed. You can then choose to lockout anything you don't want active. If you want to have more control then get the BCD996XT. It's small and can easily be programmed by hand without much difficulty.

Spend the money and become a premiuim subscriber here then you can down load the frequencies to your scanner. It's much easier if your not sure how to do it yourself.

Download Freescan. It's free.

I also notice with these digital signals that I pick up cities I never picked up before that are further away and the signals are very clear.
