As of right now all Pittsburgh dispatch fire/ems/police are still analog only the ops channels swat channel aka all the cool channels are encrypted. eventually, it will happen. No one knows when everything will go to digital and police go fully encrypted it will happen for sure but some predict it might be a couple more years.

are they still planing to move to the counties system or use their own repeaters for P25 conv. The analog system sounds good IMO.

I believe it’s gonna be countywide P25 including city of Pittsburgh police ,fire, ems rumor has it all Police will go full encryption.we all know it will eventually happen, but nobody knows when for sure it will happen. Some rumors have it may take a 2 to 5 years some rumors say it will happen this year.

Allegheny County Emergency Services (ACES) already owns and (I believe) maintains all of the City Frequencies/Sites. And with some of the city services using the system already I can’t imagine all city agencies not switching once the system is built.

I thought I read or heard in one of there releases that the central zone PGH and Mt Oliver would be the first to get the “upgrade” with the outer zones to follow.

I'm hoping it still needs to be built out if its going to deploy for public safety use. Only one simulcast system with two sites, and only 12 repeater channels which equal 22 voice paths. This won't suffice to replace the immense number of conventional channels in use around the city and the county.

As of now the City's DPW/ Parks and Refuse trucks are on that system. It is listed under Allegheny County P25 in this data base. Not sure how far this may grow

A while back, all of the agencies in Allegheny county got new radios for part of the "project" those radios are all UHF. They won't use the 800 mhz system because that would require everyone to purchase more radios.

The word of mouth is waiting till after the 2026 NFL draft. They don't want to mess with the system in case something breaks during the event.
