Well let all the people complain all they want. It's their money and who cares how they spend it. I care on how I spend my money and its usually wisely lately after Uniden Jerked us around a few years ago.

Like the saying goes "Shame on them once" "Shame on me twice". I ain't doing it twice. That causing insanity.

Plus who buys portable scanners anymore. Once I bought the APX 8000 I never looked back. LSM fixed and quad band up and down the road. No battery problems or nothing.

People love to complain and pull their hair out. I love base scanners with huge amount of metal up in the air as high as it can go and never have any issues. I got a flavor of everything and no complaints here. I am as happy as a HAIRY PEACH.

I can't help but to be disgusted with all of the negativity on these forums. These forums should be for help, advice, and issues with our radios. NOT disparaging or whining about anything that comes to one's mind. Those who complain about the cost of the SDS100, don't buy it! No one is twisting your arm. I paid over $500 for my 396T 10 years ago with a lot less features. That was a lot back then too. Battery issue, no one asked you to buy an early version. If someone was ignorant of the battery issue, maybe some research should have been done before shelling out $650.00. I know I did my research before hand. I will be happy when I get my new battery, no matter how long it takes.which I personally think Uniden is being generous about. Uniden is probably losing their *** on this early release due to the battery. They could have easily left it the way it was and offered the larger battery at a discount instead of mailing us a new battery and cover. And lastly, some folks on here are just plain petty and whiney. (Those will be probably the ones who criticize this post.) Think before you post. If you have to ask yourself if you are being negative or petty, you probably are. I'm done now. Thanks for letting me rant.

...until the big "E" c∅mes along. :(

This is why I am leary on buying a new radio since this is being debated in my area. But, that's for another discussion. Thank you to those who are calling the complaining what it is.... pure nonsense! I've been on and off here for the last several months for this very reason.

I was happy with my 396. It was quite a jump from the crystals I was using but I figured it out. And, I'm still happy with my HP1. Actually, my daughter's happy with it. She's a pilot and she uses it strictly on the air band. I couldn't believe you could just enter the zip code and get what you want! I'm happy with my HP2 and 436. Local LE is simulcast but strangely enough, I've had few problems. Now, about my SDS100. I love it. It does everything it's supposed to do. A little pricey? Yes, but life's too short not to enjoy the things you like.

Contribute then complain if you have to.
Or refund or wait a year or so for the work others put in to buy the scanner you feel you should get for your money. I complained and moaned living near LA years ago about Uniden and clearly felt entitled to a perfectly tracking scanner on LA's mess of RF from Uniden with little grasp of either the systems or the economics and reality of what a scanner for the masses really is.
I wasted my time complaining while sending zilch to Upman who was asking for specific, factual data and clearly was applying it as well as he could.

Years later and going through our new cities emergency services systems I came back to RR knowing that the problem was my fantasy about what I was getting in a new scanner - especially with new technologies/systems. New scanners are like children - they come with all the right parts (mostly) but they need a bit of time and experience to become the mature, capable product we all want. With a nasty, obstructive lip around the antenna jack that somehow has to go unless antenna manufacturers make SDS100 versions.

I have seven Uniden scanners on my desk that prove that with some contribution from us that's useful and reality in economics and the systems/environments - by far, most of us will get scanners we want with features we ask for and more. You don't have to love Uniden or how they do things to put your efforts into something that pays you back.

RR has always been about a community helping each other and contributing experience and knowledge to advance our enjoyment of RF. What better way to do that than by getting involved kindly and effectively with the makers who choose to listen and all benefit from it.

When I read reviews about products, whether it be on Amazon or Yelp, etc, I practically never read the "5-star" reviews, but immediately go to the one-star reviews first. I don't want to read about how great a product is (I can read that in the product's advertisements), but I DO want to know what the flaws are, and how they will affect my use of the product, if at all.

Many times the "flaws" don't affect me, or are obviously overblown, but there are people who give valid reasons to avoid a product, and I don't want to find out about them AFTER I buy the product and I'm disappointed.

Many people...some here...wish life was just a bowl of cherries, and disdain people who may upset that bowl with a negative comment (especially after THEY bought the product). There's no more a Utopia here than there is in the rest of life.

If there's some negative things to be heard, bring them on....I want to hear them and make my own decisions.

A thread about complaining about complaining.

Wow. Life is too short for this.

The big E came over 15 years ago so we are use to it now. But more stuff is slowly going away until everything most likely will be gone within the next 10 yrs. Its a slow process to get all of public safety gone in the next decade and I mean everything. 20 yrs ago the thought would of never crossed our minds and look where were are today.

Just think logically down the road 10 yrs from now and see where we will be. These companies will not be making scanner radios anymore. The demand won't be there as well as the volume of sales will not justify the production for profit to the shareholders.

Well I'll probably not be here in 10 years so I'll enjoy it while it lasts

I see the technology race continuing. Someone will figure out how to mask encryption keys or parallel Motorola engineering and then the race is on to further encryption plateaus and the scanner companies will try to keep up with that. Many years down the road, to be sure. I never underestimate technology. Been around here long enough to watch it grow like a backyard weed. Just when I think I've seen it all, I realize I ain't seen nothin' yet.
