I have frequencies now showing in conventional is that good and now if that is good do I need to factory reset my scanner so when I get the right stuff from radio frequencies everything will be in the right order or just leave these in my scanner
No need to reset your scanner before uploading to it. The process of uploading to the scanner will overwrite everything in the scanner anyway. Make sure that you save your PSREdit500 file before closing the program. When you next open that file, everything you've downloaded from RR will be there. When you next import from RR, whatever you import will be added to the PSREdit500 file you have created. It's important to always use the same file so as not to delete from the scanner those frequencies already uploaded. You can add as much as you want, including the county's P25 trunked system. When you get more comfortable, try arranging the conventional and trunked frequencies into scan lists for ease of monitoring. One excellent resource, when you have time to read anyway, is the Mark's Scanners Easier to Read Manual for the WS1040. I wouldn't attempt to learn everything, but simply focus on what you're interested in learning to operate your scanner.

Also, thanks for the kind words in your earlier post!

You really haven't told us much. Did you do this manually or with software? I don't own that scanner but I'm told it's a real bear to do manually.

It would appear that your sheriff is on the county trunk system, shown here...(links are always in blue)

Now to get you started, here's an article from our wiki with links for just about everything you need.

As shown in the above article, your 1040 is really a rebadged PSR500 from GRE.

There are 3 apps that program that scanner; all of them have a trial period. I am told that while Win500 is popular, the author has been very iffy with the registration keys. I would go to ARC500, and we have a user guide linked at the bottom of the above.

You should also make yourself familiar with our NY forum, where you will likely find other NY scannists.

GL...Mike

If you used PSREdit500 to program the scanner, post your programming file so that someone can see what may be missing, or needs correction.

Attaching a PSREdit500 file to a post:

PSREdit500 uses the file extension *.bin, which cannot be directly attached to a post. What you’ll need to do is one of these two ways:
Compress your file into a *.zip file, which can be attached. This can be done with a file utility such as WinZip, or the free 7Zip. If your original file was named “MyFile.bin”, the compressed file would be “MyFile.zip”.

The other method is to rename your file, using Windows Explorer. Again, for illustration, if your original file was named “MyFile.bin”, find the file on your PC and rename it. <Right><Click> on the file and select ‘Rename’ from the pop-up menu. Rename your file to either “MyFile.txt” or “MyFile.bin.txt”.
The zipped or renamed file can now be attached to a post. Whoever is going to take a look, to see anything missing or incorrect, can then download the file from your post, rename or unzip it, and open with PSREdit500 to view.

I have been using ARC 500 since the 1040 was introduced. If you decide to use that software, I will write and send you a codeplug to get you going. You can us it for an example to build your own.

You probably have not yet downloaded the Cattaraugus County Public Safety P25 system. Follow these instructions to download this system from RR and upload to scanner:
  1. Open your existing PSREdit500 file and select Import, Import Data from RadioReference.com, and Trunked Data.
  2. Enter your RR User Name, Password, and click on Query RR Web Service.
  3. Select United States, New York, and Cattaraugus County (check remember these).
  4. Drop down Trunked Radio System list to find and select Cattaraugus County Public Safety.
  5. Click on Transmitter Site Selection tab to confirm the one site listed is checked.
  6. Click on Talkgroup Selection tab and click on Select All to select all talkgroups (ensure All Agencies is displayed next to Agency Grp).
  7. Click Import System
  8. Toward the bottom of the next screen, check the desired Scan Lists you want to populate with this system (01 is checked by default but suggest you use a scan list separate from your conventional frequencies).
  9. Open the Talkgroup Configuration tab to ensure that all desired talkgroups are present. Leave all else alone.
  10. Click on Complete the Import Using these Settings button.
  11. You should see a popup saying Imported 1 TSYS and 34 TGRP objects. Click OK.
  12. Open the Trunking Object tab and you will see all imported talkgroups.
  13. Click on the Edit button and you will be able to view the system settings as well as the one primary control channel. Leave everything alone here for now. Click Cancel to exit without making any changes.
  14. Connect your scanner and computer.
  15. Click on Radio, Upload to Radio, and Yes.
  16. Save your PSREdit file
  17. You’re done.
Let me know if you have questions.

He could also take screenshots of the individual tabs in PSREdit500 using the Windows Snipping Tool and post those.

He opted for using PSREdit500, which I use to program my RS PRO-651.

True, but too often, screen shots do not cover all the settings, if the list of frequencies, talkgroups, etc, is larger than the display (in other words, have to scroll to see everything).

The mistake you made is not uncommon. You must always use the original PSREdit file you first created when later adding additional frequencies and systems. In my experience, once you've saved a file, the program will open to that file by default with each session. I don't recall if that's by design, or was a selection I made in the program somewhere, however. I can check tonight when I get home. Just remember to save your work each time you amend the PSREdit file.

You need to read the radio to the software. Then click on SAVE. Then make your entries, then click SAVE again. This way it all stays to load to the scanner. You are not the first to do this, trust me, I've done it many times. We all have.:)

The only way folks can help you now is if you post your psredit500 file - that way people can see where you are going wrong.

Of course the county system is a VHF system, and just using the little antenna that comes with the scanner might not be the best choice, but let's get your programming first....Mike
