I just purchased the above mentioned scanner and I'm lost. Tried the owner's manual and I can't get the channels to program. What am I doing wrong? I get the correct screen when the scanner boots but once I get to the all 00000 screen it won't do anything.

In addition to the model number correction, as wtp is asking, what is your location? City (or county) and your state would help us help you to resolve the issue.

elizabethtown kentucky Hardin County. It's not the scanner frequencies that aren't working. I can't even get the scanner to PROGRAM. It just either beeps or does nothing when I follow googled instructions how to program.

Edit: If I can't find a live person "locally" to help me fix this thing I'm going to return it.

Posting on the regional group (listed by state) should help if you are looking for someone who might meet up with you. But because the RR forums frown against posting the same on more than one forum it is advised you contact the admin of the forum you are posting on and ask to have your post forwarded to the regional forums page.

I've done some research for the OP. Seeing lots of P25 conventional (sheriff, fire, EMS, others). Elizabethtown Sheriff is partially-encrypted. That said, the OP's scanner will only work for channels ID'ed in the database as mode "FM" or "FMN". For those ID'ed as P25 (or P25e), OP will need to choose from this list
Edit: If I can't find a live person "locally" to help me fix this thing I'm going to return it.
I'd strongly recommend returning it, it isn't the right fit for your town/county. Always best to ask & receive advice first if you're unsure before making a purchase. Best wishes & welcome to the forums!

This might be too obvious but here goes. From a copy of the manual (I don't have the scanner):

Could this be the issue?

I'm going to return it. Maybe try a Midland. If anyone finds an android app that'll play at least the Elizabethtown (Ky) Police Department, pls let me know.

Not seeing a feed for your police (keep in mind they're partially-encrypted anyhow, as I touched upon in post #9) Your fire & EMS have a feed here:

Midlands (GMRS radio) don't do P25, stick with the list I gave you in post #9

Do you think this one will do that PD channel I want? I'm pretty sure the hospital's channel isn't digital. I just need a scanner that's easier to program. I have PulsePoint for fire/ems other than the hospital channel I mentioned. I had a perfectly good scanner that WORKED until the battery compartment got fried because I put the wrong batteries in it. Then the power cord got screwed up so I just ditched it.

May I humbly suggest you look at my Scan75 progam. It is free and unrestricted in function but if "it floats your boat" then please consider making a charitable donation to the DEBRA charity (link on my site).

"Which" one?
Manufacture (brand) & model number" Or link to a dealer's page for more details on it's capabilities?

There is a learning curve with most of the scanners available at this time. However, software programs, a number of which are free, can help you in getting up to speed on most models on the market. Additionally, software may enable someone in, or familiar with, your area to create a programming file that you can load, giving you a 'jump start' to using a new scanner.

Turned it on and immediately pressed HOLD and got to what looks like CH 1. Don't know how to proceed from there. Now it shows 000.000 and I'm not gonna touch it. It looks like I can program a channel but I'm not sure how to SAVE said channel and proceed.

Bob from NY I can't figure out how to return your private message
Look in the upper right corner of the screen. You should see a small envelope. Select that to view the message and select reply.

Note: you might have accessed that before your post count was upgraded from “newbie” to “member”. ‘Newbie’ posts are moderated until there is enough posts and info to confirm you are a person, not a “spammer”. Your ability to reply to messages (conversations is how that is labeled) is also restricted until you are upgraded to ‘member’ status.

Try it again and see if you can now reply.

You have nothing programmed. But as already noted, your city, Elizabethtown, Radcliff, as well as the sheriff’s office in your county use digital transmissions for communication. The BC75XLT is not capable of receiving digital transmissions. You need a scanner capable of handling digital communications. At this time, there are no trunked systems, digital or analog, listed as being used for public safety communications in your county. That means that an older, previously owned (used) scanner would work for you, and might be found at a much more affordable price range.

I would suggest that you might request that your thread be moved to your state forum, to see if anyone in your area is aware of plans for the county, or one of the cities, to move to a trunked system. Kentucky’s statewide system does not show (for now) to have a site in your county, though I do see the state does have licenses in place in case adding a site in your area is scheduled at some point in the future.
