Police Say Weapons Call Was Hoax
Officials Closed Port Washington Road As Precaution
GLENDALE, Wis. -- Police determined a call about multiple people with weapons in a Glendale warehouse was a hoax.
The call came in around 5 p.m. Thursday and directed officers to the Boelter Company, which sells restaurant supplies.
The company’s division president, Eric Boelter, said 50 to 60 employees were in the building at the time, and all were evacuated.
Police closed off a perimeter, including portions of Port Washington Road.
Tactical teams searched inside the building and on the roof before concluding the call was phony.
Eric Boelter said some employees had to stay late Thursday night to fill orders as a result of the evacuation, but he was grateful no one was hurt.
“Great job by the police departments,” he said.
“If it had been a real serious situation, they responded quickly.”
Nearby residents said they expected the worst.
“I actually was kind of relieved, because you never will see that many police cars pull up and somebody ain’t dead,” said a man living nearby, who identified himself as Traxx.
Another resident, Steven Moore, was also relieved.
“I was thinking, 'Wow I’m just hoping everything is OK around here. Because I’m staying around here and I don’t want to see nobody hurt
