I've been scanning for about 10 years now and I've always been more into portable scanners than mobiles. I do have a BCD996XT in the car though. Most of my scanning is done in the living room or my bedroom but I use them downstairs some, in my dorm room, and at my grandparents so I need a setup that is portable. I've only had this current setup for a couple weeks and I couldn't be happier. The scanners and what they listen to are as follows;
-From home(Portland, Maine):
Motorola HT1250: Town of Cape Elizabeth
BCD396XT: Maine counties Cumberland, York, Androscoggin, and Sagadahoc along with the Portland Metro 800mhz trunked system.
BCD436HP: Maine State Communications Network Zone 1 and 2, New Hampshire counties Carroll, Strafford, and Rockingham.
-From my Grandparents(Bangor, Maine):
Motorola HT1250: Penobscot County Fire comm 2 Only with the ability to scan Penobscot, Piscatiquis, Waldo, and Hanock Counties
BCD396XT: Somerset, Kennebec, Franklin, Waldo, Hancock, and Washington counties
BCD436HP: Penobscot and Piscatiquis Counties, Maine State Communications Network Zones 2 and 3.
I made the stand myself out of plywood because the metal stands out there are overpriced for the purpose.
