The Pottawatomie County Sheriff is putting a new narrow band VHF repeater in service this fall. The output is 155.8725. The input is 158.9475.

I have not been able to hear anything on these frequencies from OKC, but the system is supposed to be coming on line this fall. If anyone can confirm actitivty on the repeater, I would appreciate the info.

Any listeners around Shawnee?

They've moved to the new system. I cannot scan it directly on a PRO-92, but the old frequency is dead. After a brief delay, Shawnee's 800 system is back to re-broadcasting the traffic on TG 14416, although at very low volume.

There's a story about it at the Shawnee News-Star Website.

I can't give a direct link, but go to their website at www.news-star.com, hit the archives for July 16, 2004.

Apparently when they switched over to the new system, they didn't realize that some of the users with older equipment could not use the narrow band frequencies. These are mostly small town fire departments.

My understanding is that they are going to leave the old system active for those agencies while switching the Sheriff's communications to the new system.

However, I cannot confirm what they are doing at this time, since I don't hear Pott County from the house. Maybe I need to make a road trip... or a trip to radio shack for a better antenna :)

NOOOOOOO! Not Radio Shack! While I like Radio Shack, and shop there alot, most of their scanner antennas are not worth the money. Look instead online for a good quality discone from Diamond, or such. While the DJ130 is more expensive than the RS version, it is also a much better quality antenna.

In OKC's high RF environment, I don't think you are going to want a gain-type omni, too much likelyhood of interference. A zero gain, wide-band antenna is probably your best bet.
