Motorcade arrived at Logan Airport Terminal E at 11:35 am for infrastructure event, taking place in the terminal's unfinished extension.

I recently saw the unfinished terminal from the cell phone lot. I thought an alien spacecraft had landed. Weird looking building from the outside
LOL, I was walking down at the seaport last week and looked over and said, WTF is that alien red thing over by Logan, it looks so weird.

Ventured down to UM Boston visit with a friend on the BPD command staff. Really not that much security at the Library site but full set up at Park Plaza (?). He began a conversation with a USSS agent who was a good conversationalist. As Kenny said the two main channels for Protection were encrypted, but they had at least 4 simplex digital non encrypted for the talk around. They were "tagging" the cars in the two close (dignitary) parking lots and the agents were talking back and forth on them. They had APX 8000's but one simplex channel was in their scan that was a DOD channel who had the WMD dogs that was in the clear. Nothing sensative was being said besides "glorified" parking lot chat. I was told the simplex on digital and encrypted for talk around delayed much on their conversation so they switch to simplex digital. The comms truck can still hear them and it can transmit them on simplex.
Of course the college was closed for the day, and a chuckle came over a simplex that a spotter on the roof saw 4 students with DD cups and could someone ask them where is the DD near the college. (They arrived just before 2 and were not going to leave until 5:30 ish) i'm sure that was not over the protection detail channel. (haha)

Downtown was all on the two channels mentioned above encrypted.

Thanks for the channel info, was interesting even if encrypted on the PP side

Another interesting item was the number of non federal vehicles which had mag mount highband antennas. MSP Bomb trucks, BPD bomb trucks, MSP and Boston unmarks and Supervisor of Umass Police (traffic on main road) Sounds like they like they like to talk direct not thru patches maybe for convenience. They were apx 6500 one unit radios with a metal handle adapted on the side mounting holes for safe carrying.

Sure would be nice to know if those were in VHF or UHF

The antennas in the USSS vehicles were the new motorola triband that was previously chatted about here. They had APX 8500 radios. The agent told me they keep it all on VHF but have the ability to go to any band for local communications. They have the local freqs to tie into the patches thru their interop system, but give out the APX 6500 VHF mobiles to key local agencies vehicles in case the patches go down or their is either an emergency or sensative comm since they are encrypted on the Fed encryption.
