I use an old Grove preamp in front of my trusty PRO-2004 to give it a little kick in the front end when I am using it on milair. The adjustable gain is helpful, since I'm in an urban area, and overloading can cause all sorts of strange stuff to come through. Sadly I don't believe that preamp is made anymore. 73s Mike

Many years ago I loaned my company a cheap kit type VHF pre amp for a UHF Satcom project. One of the other engineers burned it up and my company replaced it with an Angle Linear 225-400MHz high level model (thanks un-named company!). These were designed to upgrade the front end of Collins GRC-171 UHF ground radios for NASA. Check out this link:

Not bad, considering the stuff is built in the guy's garage!

It's one guy, and he's pretty busy. Give it time.

Hmm, When I ordered mine he picked up on the first ring. He may be on vacation? Or out of town.
