Hello all,

I was talking with a friend last week and he talked about a company called Advance Receiver Research. He was talking about their preamp for amateur use. Here is a link to their amateur preamp line

Do any of you have experience with them ? Are they any good ?

Many thanks.

Good coax has little loss at the lower frequencies, maybe for a long run like 100 feet or so on UHF the pre Amp would be worthwhile. For the Ghz stuff , now that's another animal.

I should have mentioned that this question was related to another post a made a few minutes before about a satellite antenna. I suppose that the signal received by the satellites/ISS is not that strong.

If you look at their best $120 VHF amp it has 0,5dB NF and its 1dB compression at 12dBm.
Compare that to a $15 PGA103+ amplifier that has the same NF but 1dB compression at 22dBm, a 10dB improvement.
Data sheet here

They don't mention IP3 intermodulation level, as its probably not very impressive, that are 40dBm for a PGA103+ that would be hard to beat.

ARR preamps have really good specs if you go back to the 1970s. By todays specs they are junk for the $$. The MiniCircuits ZX60-P103LN has low noise figure and good IP1/IP3 specs but a lot of gain at VHF or UHF. If you use a band pass filter in front of it and attenuate the output it should be very useful and I’ve used them on VHF and UHF repeater front ends with great results.
