• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

There’s a line some cross with radio settings so poorly done it becomes comical.

You got a teenager riding with you messed up that radio?

Your dog got a REALLY long and strong tail?

Didn’t read my thread links, did you?

A tip on searches is to combine subject and contributor. I’ve written still more.

Searches of this type have bettered my understanding.

Slow down, re-read this thread from beginning and go through links.

.
Sure did - but was considering a possible short cut and wondered whether the President DigiMike (which apearealy came out only recently) was a better option over the K-PO NM-532 mentioned in your thread link. Or is the Digi-Mic in your first comment the President DigiMike? Sorry, if I missed the point somewhere.

Is a radios talk back a good reference to judge tx quality..?
I tried to chk a radio using talk back and mic postion but not sure if it's a true indication of what might be heard 100 yards away..?

Once you spring for DSP in the audio it’ll be a revelation. An NRC Radio with a Hi-Fi speaker takes it to a place 99.5% didn’t imagine could exist given a transceiver filter is in place.

I’ve walked guys through (good radios) from a full re-set of controls to get every bit of clarity possible. That ability is worth having in one’s own radio rig.

It’ll also keep you busy fielding requests from others.

Where'd that last 80-miles go?

Not what you asked.

It’ll be up to you to determine.

1). There’s a problem not clarified as to source.

2). Spending money can make things better, but in & of itself is not the same as having ID’d and fixed the actual problem.

I’ve had some power mics. They’re a type of crutch for some radios. I (personally) don’t think the Lincoln needs it.

See my comments elsewhere in a search re Digi-Mic.

No. It intercepts voice (audio) prior to it being sent to the transmitter.

That’s why you’ll see me talk about helping men get theirs dialed-in with the high RX quality of my rig as we’re on the road (NRC radio + DRX-901 speaker, today).

It’s why many “sound bad” (too much echo, etc). It’s the roughest of rough-in.

.
That's kinda what I thought as well..I can only ask others how my radio sounds. But I'd rather be able to hear it myself..the only other radio I have is a randy handheld.
I may set up a camera then take a ride just to hear what it sounds like. I doubt I'll get too far b4 the randy quits receiving but it will be some indication I suppose..

I had a friend/local (sadly silent key) had 2 Lincoln radios and IMO they sounded the best with the Digi mic. FWIW. That was on SSB. Don’t think we tested in other modes.

Hesitant to mention because I know a lot of people frown on this, especially on side band, but he got a lot louder but still clean when he set both echo settings on 2.

Yup I know..I don't have a base station.
Just the mobile..I did do the video and actually got 4.5 mi from the randy and that little rubber duck antenna was still hearing..I thought that was pretty good actually..
A Lil Wil is pretty useless. Except on an RV as Campground Radio Antenna stuck on trailer tongue. But it won’t TX far enough otherwise. Something similar and taller will be worthwhile for both campground AND listening for the prodigal son on his way home.

The adapter is a “required” piece of kit.

You know I thought the same thing about the Lil will, but? Not that long ago we helped get a young local Into radio. When he showed interest!!! One guy gave him a president McKinley. Another gave him a little will saying you will be surprised how well they can talk. Now I’ve never owned one but thought to myself no way that thing is going to talk over 5 miles. Kept my mouth shut about it though.

Long story short, we got to test it one day. The local that gave him the radio and I were on our bases and when Alex got about 10 miles out we started to have a little trouble hearing him. I thought that was all she wrote. But no, turned out he was just in a dead spot. We stuck with till about 20 miles out as the crow flies!!! I was completely shocked but it happened..

He has since upgraded to a performer 5000 and a QT 40 in his Mobile and an A99 with an anytone Q5N2 on his base. Along with a homemade wire moxon to boot. His first base antenna was a two 4 foot Firestik vertical dipole. Everyone came together in no time and this kid is out talking most of us. LOL

Almost everybody on this forum thinks the Lil Wil is crap. I figure most never used one. I ran one for over 20 years as a base antenna on a steel roof. Easily talked locally 30+ miles on AM, and all over the world shooting DX. Great antenna.
i got a lil wil on top of caddy esclade dead center of roof. ive shot skip through my at 6666 and talked local about 30 to 35 miles several times.eve farther on lsb
