I want to apply the attenuator to a conventional channel.
I stop on that channel/freq and prog and apply the att to it, and hit SAVE.
But it doesn't save the attenuator setting.
It says it's applied or "on" when I recheck, but it is not actually attenuating the signal.
I know this because when I hit ATT in global mode, it attenuates. But I don't want to attenuate everything in the scanner.

Am I doing something wrong? I've looked through the manual.

thanks,

Mike

How do you "stop" on the channel - via "pause" or via "manual"? I have no idea if it makes any difference - just taking a wild guess. Peter Sz

I don't think PSE or MAN really matters when you press program it goes to the last object that was active, same if you press manual. Try turning global attentuation off then pressing ATT on that channel and turning global back on or leave it off if you want to.

I think I got it.
I make the G go off while scanning and now my individual attenuated channels show up with an A.

I don't see this specifically in the book, but I could have glazed over it.

Thanks for the advise.

note: I never seen a scanner where you have to attenuate EVERY VHF-Hi frequency you have. Annoying bug for an otherwise great unit. Are there any other bands on this thing I need to do that with?

If your having to attenuate every VHF-HI frequency in your scanner then you are probably experiencing the unfortunate overload issue that is common with these scanners. You're right, it's a very unfortunate flaw in an otherwise quite well designed unit.

VHF is the most common band for problems like this for these scanners but I have issues on 800MHz as well. If you can find the cause of your overloading on VHF then you might be able to use a notch filter to notch out that interferer. Most commonly, strong paging transmitters in the 152MHz, 157MHz and 158MHz ranges or strong local broadcast FM and television transmitters are the cause. If your interference is constant with no occasional drops (in interference) across the band then it probably is a radio or TV transmitter nearby. If it comes and goes it's probably paging. You can sometimes also tell if you hear a low level audio along with your desired signal; pagers sound like a series of tones and warbly noises while a TV or FM station (if analog) would sound, well, like whatever that station is transmitting at the time like distorted music or talking.

Per Page 24 of the manual, you can set the attenuator mode in the 'Global Menu' or via the 'ATT' key.

You can also select "Attenuate" in the program mode for each conventional object IIRC.

I have not played with this at all - but my general sense is that there are 2 primary options - attenuation for all objects - or - attenuation for some objects.
