I am finally Digital! Woo-Hoo

I purchased the Pro-106 today but am finding the manual to be overly complicated. The main problem I am having is when programing a conventional object the radio is putting on whatever channel it wants. So I have stuff on 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 17, 20 ect. I can not figure out how to get everything in Proper numerical order. 1 thru 10 ect.

Help is Appriciated!

They do that, It's the actual mem bank space its storing it into as a object, I tested this twice and same each time, It puts the Talk ID's at wherever it wants in the object numbering.

LOL, mine went 6,32,16,69 I think hehee.... ..

Sorry, I might be mistaken here, You mean Bank 1-20 ?

At the top of each programing section it says on what "bank" it is being programmed in etc. I feel I cant explain what I mean any more then I have. :(

*01-0000 has an object, *01-0001 has an object. *01-0003 has an object, but I can not put an object in *01-0002 to save my life.

Win500 software allows you to "reassign object IDs" so that they are in numerical order, so you should at least give that a try.
With the Pro-106, you don't put an object in 01-0002, you put an object in 0002 and then link it to one or more scan lists. So maybe you previously defined the object 0002 and linked it to scan list 3. You would then find 03-0002 as you step manually through your memory.
With Win500, it will tell you if the object ID is already in use if you try to assign an object to it.

Thanks - I ended up doing a radio reset and re-programing by hand. So far I have 25 Conventional objects in scan list 01 and they are in order. I LOVE the digital audio on this scanner. My next big trick will be to program a Trunked System or TSYS. I did get Win500 and if it gets much more troublesome I'll go get the USB cable and do this all by Software.

When considering 1852 objects, would object ID make much difference? They are used only for memory tally of current scanner memory.

Fact is, should you desire to remove a programmed object, its ID will not be used again until object ID 1852 is programmed which then allows deleted ID's to be reused (I think not necessarily in sequence).

They're also used for navigating directly to any object in MAN and PGM modes.

For the OP: as others have said, the only way to put objects in specific ID "locations" is to use external software for your programming/editing. When creating new objects from the scanner's keypad, the scanner looks for the "next available" location, starting from the last location used.

Well Don, it looks like I will finally be buying your software. I do not like Butel what-so-ever. I do have the trial software of Win500 and Really like it, So now I'll be another paid owner of it. Programing this by hand is a Mother[Edit]!

Well I now understand the concept of Object Oriented trunking. But I must give the credit to Starssoft and the Win500 program. I was at my wits end with the Pro-106, ready to trade it for a 96! I downloaded Win500 and looked at it. in a matter of minutes I finally understood the in's and out's of the 106. The software actually helped more than the Radio Shack owners manual. I will be purchasing Win500 and Butel can kiss my [edit]!!!

I have several Scan lists set up. I LOVE the way these Object Scanners handle Trunking systems. More like a real Trunked radio than a scanner.

I still have questions for Networked & Multi site systems, but over all I have passed the "noob" parts of the 106 and might consider myself a half skilled user. This radio is Incredible!

My sentiments exactly. The audio on the 106 is very crisp and clear, not scratchy like other digitals out there. The design is much sturdier. You can place it on the table without batteries in it and not worry about it falling over. The front end doesnt get overloaded like its competitors do from time to time!!

Tommy --

Yer kidding, right? There are many virtues to the 500/106 -- & i love mine -- but resistance to overload is not one of them, particularly in VHF. Mine was helped greatly by a Scannermaster HF/FM in-line antenna filter.
