Hello. Have a Pro 106. Haven't used it in a while. I programmed it shortly after I purchased it (late 2012). Used the ARC 500 & cable that was purchased from Radion Shack. A few days ago I got it out and tried to update it. I purchased a subscription to this site as well as the ARC 500. I can't get it to work. Any suggestions and/or tips are welcome. Thanks!

Did you plug the cable into the correct connection on the scanner -- it goes into PC/IF (not the headphone jack)?

The RS 106 is extremely easy to pgm by hand also , for a trunk system a few key strokes gets you a wildcard ,...

Make sure the cable is all the way in. Ive programmed a lot of those and desktops, sometimes it wont work. When it happens I push in the cable on the radio, I bet a mere 1/64th in and it always works.

I dont use arc500, but psredit500. In the settings on that I use "Direct" to connect and not having to mess with Com ports.
Check the setting in your software. PSREdit does have an option to convert from ARC500 files if you wanted to try that and has a 30 day free trial.

Is the correct cable driver installed? Windows updates can cause problems. ARC500 has a generic driver installer which works with Radio Shack cables. In ARC500, go to the Scanner tab and click on Install USB driver.

First of all, I would like to thank all that replied. Much appreciated. Thank y'all very much. I'm using the 20-456 cable. One end is plugged into the USB port of the computer (I have a Dell laptop). The other end is plugged into the pc/if port. Both connections are snug. After several attempts, I think the problem may be the USB port number. What number should I be using?

I will try to program by hand. I'm trying to update the OK-WIN for Oklahoma, and AWIN from Arkansas.
