We have a RS pro 106 and a RS-82 scanners. While listening to both at same time the 106 will not pick up all the conversations that the 82 does. They both will be scanning same freqs. but the conversation will cut out on the 106. RS was no help at all. Is it a set up problem? Just bought 106 1 week ago. Thanx for any help.

If you have it close to a computer that can interfere with it. Maybe try moving the scanner to a different area where you live. Adjust the squelch possibly.

Maybe try switching antennas to see if the problem goes to the opposite radio?

You might need to change the antenna. I used to have a center load all band antenna on my 106, and it picked up fine from my apartment at college (which I listen to 800 hertz), but when I went back to my home town, I could hardly pick up anything from my house (155 hertz) with that antenna. I bought a 800 hertz antenna to pick up better at college, which I really didnt need, and suprisingly I got a 75% increase on what I hear at home as well with this antenna, even though at home its not 800 hertz.

So try a different antenna on it.
I also find that in certain parts of my house I dont pick it up at all. IDK why this is, but I hear it fine in my kitchen but say the dinning room, I hear nothing.

What frequencies are you scanning?

Just joined the group so bear with me.

I was just going through the posts to look up and ask this very question.

I would say that the 106 picks up places that I was unable to hear before on the stock antenna. It is better in some respects than my RS Pro528 that is on an external antenna. But I have two questions regarding this-

1) When receiving transmissions they seem to have a hiss or squelch which often times makes it hard to hear and is annoying. My 528 pics up the same transmissions crystal clear. When placing the 106 on the external antenna, it either gets worse or picks up nothing at all. Can this be fixed or is that how the 106 sounds?

2) Is there anyway to speed up the scan rate? Most of the transmissions seems to get cut off on the front end. I am using Win500 for programming, so if it can be changed in there please explain how.

Overall not a bad scanner. I cannot believe what I can pick up on the stock antenna. Thanks to anyone who may have answers for these newbie questions.

GB2EN,

You can change the scan time under "expert settings."

The scan times are the "SQ Wait Time" There is a one and a two, the lower you set this number the faster it scans. However, with the Pro-106, there is a posiblilty to set the number to low and it does not stop on active frequencies.

If you click on this link it gives, a good detailed guide to the 106, it also shows you alot of comands or how to program it with Win500.

Easier to Read Pro-106/197/PSR500/600 Digital Scanner Manual

Doug, user name KC5EIB, asked a valid question about perhaps having your priority set for either a specific frequency or your weather frequency. Most of the past complaints about missing pieces of conversation during scanning have been caused by the 106 having priority set for something, usually the weather channel. As to putting the 106 on an outside antenna, there's been volumes about that written in the forum as well. Try a search and you'll see a ton of answers to why this can cause a dead (appearing) scanner.
