I got one for christmas along with the 20-047 USB cable from
Rat.Shack. I downloaded several programs (ARC96, ARC300, Win96, Win97)
all of which are supposed to work with this. But it doesn't upload
anything to the scanner. I can see data going through the cable, but
the scanner does not indicate anything is happening. Perhaps the baud
rate is set wrong?

Here's more details for anyone who can help.

Port = COM10
Baud rate = 9600
Firmware version 1.00

I have the Pro 164 and used the ARC 300 software and the RS cable you mentioned. I then became a premium member of this site. This enabled me to load the frequencies and talkgroups directly from RR to the ARC 300 banks. You will see an icon marked "Internet" on the ARC 300 toolbar. You can choose the system type here. A box will open up where you choose the State, County, City and system type you want to monitor. Choose which bank you want it in and hit import. When you are done filling the banks that you want on the ARC 300 software connect the RS cable to your scanner and your PC. Make sure that your scanner is turned on. Then locate the "send" icon on the ARC300 toolbar and click it. A box will appear where you choose the USB port and the scanner model. I use USB port 4 and it works fine. You should see clone mode when the cable is plugged into the scanner and your PC. When you hit the send button on the ARC 300 toolbar your scanner display should read "receiving data" and you will see a progress bar too. I hope this helps you.

Welcome to Radio Reference!

Did you enter any data into the software? Did you upload/send the data to the scanner?

i got it. instructions are hard to come by, so following recommendations in this thread and a bit of help from the local rat.shack store, i loaded it last night.

my version of scancat lite (which was recommended highly) was a demo and would not write to the scanner. the other programs i had weren't compatible. they gave me a copy of theirs which works great, and i also got PSR Edit which i will try later.

Thanks for all the help.
