I used to own a Pro-64 (believe that was the number) and I could go to any ID I wanted to listen to and it would stay there untill I pushed scan. I believe I pushed HOLD and then entered the ID numner - exam: 1137 and it would lock on that ID. I now own a Pro-164 and I can not do that function. I do not see anything in the owners manuel and there is no HOLD button - just a pause button. Does anyone know if this can be done and if so how? It is real frustrating to have to wait for the Group ID to talk before I can lock it on so I don't miss anything in that ID - gets old to have to keep pushing scan to keep searching for that ID untill they talk and I can then push the pause.

I am not certain, but I believe that the PRO-64 was made by Uniden. The PRO-164 is made by GRE. The method that each uses for navigating to a trunked talk group is quite different.

On the PRO-164, press MAN. Go to the bank where the trunked system is programmed. Press FUNC TRUNK. Use the TRUNK, UP & DOWN keys to navigate to the desired TG. Press FUNC TRUNK. After a few seconds the scanner will go into ID HOLD MODE on that TG. If it does not do so, make sure that the scanner has found the active control channel in the bank before doing the above.

I don't like ID HOLD MODE for "normal scanning". It is ok to force the scanner to pause to hear all of a conversation or something like that, but if you just want to hear a single TG, you are better off just selecting that TG. I am a heavy user of the sub-banks in the GRE scanners and will turn off sub-banks I don't want to hear, rather than use ID hold mode. There are issues where you will miss transmissions in ID hold mode.
