I got my scanner from out of state and it was all setup for where it came from. I initialized it get it back to defaults("as shipped" according to manual). Well now there is nothing on it. I have added 15 - 20 for my local area but now I am wondering if I can get all of the pre-programmed freq's back onto the scanner. By pre-programmed I mean the ones that were on it from Radio Shack, not the ones from the other state.

If not, does anybody have a backup file from a new/fresh 164 that I could get? I know that I would have to re-add the freq's that I put in.

Thanks,

Weox

Be aware that if you do the above procedure to reload all the preset frequencies, you will loose anything you have programmed in the first 155 channels (all of bank 0 and 55 channels of bank 1).

I think you would be better off if you continue to program in the specific frequencies for your area instead of reloading the presets.

Thanks for the help. On the same line of thought is there any specific order to input freq's? What is the best order? Do people put similar freq's in the same band, ie air traffic in one, rail in another, public safety in another, etc... or maybe by physical location?

Thanks,

Frequency Grouping

Weox,

Grouping frequencies would be up to your personal preference. In one radio I group public service by counties. I've grouped air traffic by airport at times and at other times I've thrown multiple sites together.

Your choice of grouping might also depend on your listening habits... will the radio always be stationary or will you take it mobile.

Bottom line... program to your likes and needs. If your like me... you'll think of a better way and change everything up after a while.

Good Luck & Good Listening,

Thanks for the ideas. I started to put stuff in by county but I am getting a lot, about 80 %, of the traffic from our County Transit. You know, "Bus 21 pickup at 163 W East St; drop off at Wal-Mart." Not to interesting. So now I am thinking that I should group by type. Public safety in bank 0, Air in bank 1, Stuff I don't really care about but might want to check out every now and then in bank 9, etc...

Sounds like I should get the programming cable and software if I am going to be changing things around until I get it where I want it.

Turn it on, soon as you see the Multi system trunking message, press PGM and then 1

This will restore the preprogrammed frequencies on RS handheld pro 164?
