Hello. I received a Radio Shack Pro 164 Trunking Scanner for
Christmas. I am an experienced scanner programmer and have no trouble
putting in the conventional frequencies. I am ready, however, to pull
my hair out while trying to put in the trunking ID's and frequencies.
I live in Huntsville,Alabama Madison County and we have the Motorola
Type II Smartnet. Any body have a clue how to do this
pleeeeeeeeeeeease help me. I will call who ever I need to. I will need step by step instructions It will all be very much appreciated.

Jonathan, I have a Pro 164 and will glad to if I can. We can handle by e-mail or here or if you prefer by PX. My e-mail addresses are tayl91@bellsouth.net or kd4lcy@bellsouth.net . Or send me your PX number by PM or e-mail and we can go from there. For me e-mail would be probably be better but we can try whatever.

I need help too!!!

I also have a pro164 and have NO IDEA how to program for trunking. The user's guide is pretty useless. I am interested in the Dept. of Public Safety/Highway Patrol, Birmingham City PD, and Vestavia PD. Can you possibly go through the programming steps on this forum so I can benefit from it also?
Thanks.

larryesq, No problem but out of the three agencies you listed only Vestavia PD can be "trunk tracked" on your 164.
Birmingham PD and FD use a "digital" trunked system and the 164 only does "analog".
Dept of Public Safety/Highway Patrol uses "conventional" frequencies mainly not trunking (except in a very few areas). If nothing happens I will post "my version/interpretation" of trunk programming later today. Now the disclaimer for "my version/interpretation", my programming steps may not be exact by the "book/manual" but they work for me. You can also use the e-mail addresses listed above for contact if you wish.

Trunked system programming help

Attached are a Word file and a zipped file with "my" directions for programming a TRS into the Pro-164. I tried to keep it simple, direct and to the point. Hopefully I was successful. Now for the "Disclaimer", this file is "how I do it" and I hope it will help with the programming. Other may "do it" different but this method works for me. I did make it "general" and for all the trunking systems that the 164 can handle.

As always any questions (that I can answer), corrections and additions are indeed welcomed. I "used" the spell and grammar checking in Word but there are probably plenty of goofs left, so again C&A are welcomed.

Great Info!

Thank you very much for the great info. I am VERY new to scanners/scanning and I need all the help I can get. I did program the conventional frequencies for the highway patrol today and will see if I can get the Vestavia trunked system programmed as well.

Programing Edacs into RS Pro-164.

Hi Steve,
I just purchased the 164 last night and I too am having trouble putting in one Edacs Scat frequency I am able to listen to only one of the two frequencies. One has a loud noise on it until someone talks. I am attempting to program Miami Springs, Fl police. I looked at your word file but it did not help me as when I go to the program mode, it shows additional data on the screen. The book with the scanner is very poor for a novice. :).
If you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

P.S. I have one frequency in channel 902 & the other in 903.

Thanks

I just programmed my pro-163. And if not for the computer cord and the arc 300 software i would have been lost....but once i got that going and updated the firmware etc., it's now a breeze to to do or change,

Pro 164

I had programmed my pro 164 no problem. Trunked for a month or so. Forgot about it. Setup some more banks and gave it to my dad to listen to. When I got the unit back. It wasn't trunking any more.

I have done a factory reset on the device and re-setup the local trunked systems, but still nothing. I have searched and searched for a resolution, which one lead me to do factory reset, but still nothing. Any ideas??
