My Pro-164 is starting to frustrate me recently. I will be listening to one of my local trunked systems and then all of a sudden...silence. The scanner will stop decoding the control channels ( I assume) and the "T" disappears from the top left corner. The conventional frequencies work fine, but when I try to monitor the control channel, the "%" message doesn't appear, only "Mot: None" or whatever. The bizarre part is that it began to trunk again after I pressed random numbers while it was scanning. Its done this a few times now, and all the threads I can find on the topic usually end in "buy another one" or sending it to RS for repair (for $50-$70). Surely there is a real solution to this major issue that seems to crop up in these scanners quite often. Any takers? By the way, I am in Hillsborough County in Florida.

How strong is the signal when it does work? Also hillsborough county public safety is an edacs system, not a motorola system.

I know its an EDACS system, so for those control channels it reads "ED: None".
Signal strength is pretty high when it is working correctly.

If I understand you correctly, sometimes everything works correctly and other times it does not. When it works you see the T on the top line. And when you go to manual mode you do not hear a control channel. It sounds like you do not have all the control channel frequencies programmed. When they switch, everything on your end goes silent.

I can hear the control channels fine through Manual mode, but they occasionally refuse to decode. Also, I've made sure that all control channels as well as alternates are plugged in to the bank.

I've also noticed that if I press on the center of the speaker area, trunking resumes. So far this has worked everytime, so I'm beginning to thinks it's a connection problem inside the scanner. How in the world would I find the loose connection I need to resolder?
