i have programed scanner no problem and can hear the county to the south of mine just fine except when one of the fire dept goes to fire ground 1,2,or 3. i have been able to hear them once or twice. they are called out on low ban then there other channels are 800 meg. i can hear everyone else fine.

Sounds like an antenna issue. Those fire ground channels are probably unit to unit and likely low power.

So unless you are close to them or have a decent antenna, you probably won't hear them.

kma371 is right on. The point of fireground is to remove communications from the dispatch channel while they're on scene. They're low power portable radios for person to person and unit to unit communications. A good antenna with good elevation can help. In some areas fireground may have a simulcast patch into a trunk system.
