I got mine a few days ago and I am so far, very impressed. Good clear sound and it picks up from over 30 miles away (I live in a metro area)

Where I live, nearly every city shares the same trunking system. I have many of these frequencies in and the scanner works fine. I am trying to figure out how to give a different "tag" to a trunked system as all the tags for over 39 freq all say the same thing. Right now, all I have are the " *ID " numbers that match up to nearby city, but I want to know if their is a way to add a tag to a particular 'DEC' ID number? Right now I have to memorize 4-digit id's and what city they go to.

If there is anyone who can help, that would be great. In the meantime I'll just listen to what stupid and ignorant are doing : )

Welcome to RR.com, gargar!

First, let me say that showing your location as "Mich" is not much help to anyone. It is way too broad. You should consider adding a city and/or county at least.

Second, the Pro-197 is the top of the line RS scanner and very robust. I have the GRE PSR-600 (the brother to the 197) and it displays the name of the agency along with the "DEC" TGID with each reception. My question is: How did you populate your scanner? Did you use software? Which software? Did you import the proper ID tags? Maybe I don't really understand your question.

I think I would consider reentering all of the TGs. First, the Pro-197 is very complex and although you should be commended for doing manual programming, I would strongly suggest using software such as WIN500 to do your programming. You must get a Premium Subscription to RR, but it is well worth it. By using the software and your Premium Subscription, you can import all of the information including the TG tags. You will also find a help file here when you import your systems.

Third, you might consider posting your question in the Michigan Radio Discussion Forum. Since the members there are local, they could be a big help in sorting this out for you.

No commendations for me - LOL

First off, the staff at RS programmed in the frequencies, not me! I am by no means a "whiz" at complicated issues like this scanner, however, I thought that since I was the one that always programmed the vcrs and watches and radios... etc...how difficult could this 197 be? One thing I did have to do the first day I got (and it boosted my confidence) was go in and find the correct TRS (25 Standard) that was being used in 90%+ of the localities.

I live in Macomb County, MI and I am picking up most of the cities here and approx 40 more in adjacent Oakland County. I found most of the id's for Macomb on the RR site but there were very few that I could find in Oakland. If anyone has those id's -- post them.

You're right though, this is certainly a top of the line A-1 scanner. I had one as a kid and I remember having to save money in order to buy new crystals so I could get more listening options. Putting a crystal into a slot is a whole lot easier than trying to do a series of procedures - akin to NASA launching the shuttle - to manually program a TRS. (jk/lol)

Anyway, I'm going to keep on trying to get that owners manual translated (yes, I did get the simpler version of the manual online) and I'm going to glean as much as I can from the RR website. In the meantime I'll just have this thing on --- it literally doesn't shut up for more than 4-5 seconds at a time, 18 hours a day! Am I pleased with it? Absolutely. Am I in any hurry to get more frequencies? Not at the moment, I got more than enough to listen to now.

Peace brother.
