I just received a Pro-2006 Scanner. On the back is a switch for 0db-10db Attenuation. Can anyone tell me what this means? Instead of seeing a button for Light on the front it has Dimmer. Is there a way to turn off the lighted display?
Thanks,
Frank

Don't think there is a way to turn off backlight without modding - And shouldn't the ATT switch be self explanatory ?

it was for back in the day when we carried pagers intermod would occur on a desired receive fx, this would attempt to limit the overload of the receiver preventing you from hearing the desired signal, (today not so much) dependant where you like
Is there a way to turn off the lighted display?
im gonna say no not easily at least , not without intense modification (which we did on these back in the day) for a variety of different uses

The early Pro-2006's like yours (and mine) only had the dimmer switch for the light. On later models, it was changed to an on/off switch due to issues with the backlight failing.

The attenuation switch is normally left in the 0 position, the -10 position reduces the sensitivity of the receiver, perhaps useful in case of signal overload.

Exactly right. Even living in a high RF environment in a major metro area, I found the -10 position compromised the quality of too many signals and caused others to be missed altogether.

A few times I found the attenuation switch accidentally moved to the -10 position so I stuck a little piece of tape back there to keep the switch in the 0 position.
