Just was given a pro-2050 anyone know what are the best features/uses for this model? I don't have a manual but have viewed one on the rs site. Just wondered where I could put this one in use for ?
Any area that primarily uses either conventional frequencies or Motorola Type 1 or Type 2 trunking systems with analog voice. Taking a quick glance at Franklin County, PA in the database, it doesn't look like that county has any trunking systems that you can listen to with the PRO-2050 - they are digital or LTR. There are some conventional frequencies, but those appear to be used on a limited basis by public safety. Businesses, public works, and aircraft might be the best options in that county. I don't know about adjacent counties.
There are quite a bit of things to listen too, like the USCG, Marine channels, airports/airplanes etc. I'm sure if you play around with it you could find some good things to listen too.
Everything that is conventional in your county. Businesses, federal frequencies, VHF aircraft, ham radio, etc.. Won't do the P-25 digital trunking for your county (all public service: FD, PD, SO). As was pointed out, look in the RR database for what you can monitor. HTH, Larry
Thanks for the replies guys........ I'm familiar with the database info. I was just wondering if this scanner would have an area that it would work better in such as air or milair etc. I have too many scanners (just ask the wife or the boys) ?
If you have no use for it as an "Air Band" dedicated scanner then maybe sell it on a well known auction site, it will still be of use to someone where digital has not as yet been adopted... I've purchased 3 US spec scanners in recent months because my local area EMS still use conventional radio comms
Thankfully, my PRO-2050 is still receiving my local Motorola trunked system after rebanding.
I already have loaded my local aero freqs, marine freqs [I'm practically on the Gulf of Mexico], FRS/GMRS/MURS, and I'm going to add the railroad freqs next.
