Hello,

As stated in previous posts, I am getting back into scanning and have found out that scanning has taken leaps and bounds since I last turned a scanner on.

Afew years back, I bought a PRO-2052 and a Pro-54, I use the PRO-54 at nascar races .The PRO-2052 had never been out of the box. To my suprize it had a pc connection. I never knew that i could download the frequencies to the scanner.

The software needed for the 2052 is winscan 2.0. scannmaster has (although its an inactive product) it online.

My question is this, is winscan 2.0 still the only software to use for 2052? are there other products that can be used instead.?

I dont mean to be a pest with all the questions. And I thank you in advance.

I would avoid winscan products like the plague; Pozilla's (the company that wrote the product) customer service is virtually non existant. There are a few other packages that work with the 2052, but I think you'll find that Scan Control is among the best.

Here's the URL

Scan Control

They also have a dedicated Yahoo group where you can ask questions of the developer, Ken D. In fact, the newest version introduces support for the newer firmware versions. Highly recommended. The Scancat family of products as well as Spectrum Commander (Scanstar's offering) also handles this scanner. There's also 'Radio Commander'; I would advise against doing anything with Scan Pro's offerings, though some folks like 'em. I just find their implementation to be very sloppy (I did a review of their 895 and 245 software)

Check the downloads section of this board, or even better, my software page at the Strong Signals website;

Thank you Mike. What great links. I cant believe how much info that there is out here and how well its organized. When I got the brainstorm acouple of weeks ago to fire up a scanner again I never would have imagined that this hobby was as well supported as it is. i start searching and reading and when I look up acouple of hours have gone by and it seemed like only minutes. just amazing.

Dave - be sure to take full advantage of those packages that have associated Yahoo groups, along with having a firm grasp of what you are trying to accomplish with the software. It will save you from making a bad decision (and costing you money and aggravation) in the long run.

In addition to the links provided, plus the recommendations you can find in the RS forum here at RR, there are 1 or 2 PRO2052 Yahoo groups as well. The best place to get recommendations about software is from the folks that use it.

That Pozilla software is still included with the "Police Call" book. It's on the CD in the back...

They usually have it at your local RS..
