Ok so here goes. I know that paging towers and such are close to me, however while i was doing some troubleshooting, I came across this now, while in trunk mode for the essex fleetnet tower i can not hear voices, but if it is in manuel mode i can hear transmissions crystal clear. I have checked the tables all info is correct, same with control channel and alternate, however thou, The alternate of 142.665, is also a control channel, with a decoding of 5-10% , and the control channel for the system is 142.905. So i figured ok, i'll drop the alternate channel of 142.665, and put in another freq that is with the essex fleetnet tower, but still same thing. ATT is of and i also checked the global ATT and of course that is off too. Does anyone have any ideas, or know what i am doing wrong?

142.6650 is the primary control channel for London... if your scanner is picking that up, even faintly, it might be messing things up. I had the reverse of your problem a few weeks ago. We had a stretch of days with really good skip and I was picking up the Windsor control channel on one of the London voice channels and the scanner would just hang on it...

What type of antenna are you using? Are things any better with the alternate CC deleted (or just locked out) and using the stock rubber ducky?

Hi Forts,

I am using a discone up about 40-45 feet with LMR coax, I tried a different freq for the alternate channel, but no change. At first i thought that was the problem too, but apparently not. It appears to be only happening with the essex tower, as i can get doyles, and wardsville with no problem. I do not have the stock antenna with my pro-2096, its a base station scanner. Its got me scratching my head.

Did this just start? Does it do it all the time, or come and go? If so it could be an atmospheric thing, hard to say. A couple things you could try... program in the Essex site into a bank with the primary CC only and nothing else.. just the 1 frequency and see what happens. You could also try programming in all the voice channels too but I don't think that will make a difference... Also try it with ATT set to ON.

Thanks Forts, it just happening, i just moved from windsor to chatham. I did try just the control channel, no go, tried all the freq's no go (minus the 142.665) Tried toggling the ATT on and off, but with it on i can't hear the control channel at all, with it off i do. I am thinking however, their are a couple of paging towers that are very close to me, thou i do have a filter coming to me to try and use, so i will try with that and see what happens. just strange thou, as in manuel it will pick up transmissions, but in trunk it will not, however i can pick up the doyles site fine and the wardsville fine.Decoding rate for the essex tower is low only 20-25% bounces between the 2. i am suspecting at the moment and really the only thing that makes sense is the front end is overloading or the paging "bursts" are throwing off the control channel reception. But if any other ideas come to mind please let me know :)
