I am trying to import the Lake County Indiana consolidated dispatch system (Lake County Public Safety) and it will not broadcast. Can anyone look and let me know if this scanner will work. I have researched it and the scanner is P-25 compliant but it just worn t work.

It looks like the Lake County Public Safety system is a P-25 Phase II system. Your Pro-652 scanner only receives P-25 Phase I, you need a scanner that receives P-25 Phase II.

A Phase II system does not mean that a Phase II scanner is required. As far as what the DB says, Lake County Public Safety Trunking System looks to be operating with P25 Phase I, assuming that all the new updates to the database are completely accurate since it is new and still being updated. Having a Phase II scanner wouldn't be a bad idea for such a system since they have the potential of switching over at anytime.

Since it looks like it is a new system, perhaps things have not settled as of yet. Are you able to TUNE to the control channel and hear anything? Does your scanner display anything on the control channel?

There is a fairly large possibility that you're running into simulcast digital distortion. This is especially true if you can hear the control channel and see full bars, but the scanner struggles to decode anything. Attenuation might help with reception by a little, but it's largely suggested that being able to point a directional antenna at a particular tower would be better.

There is a 15 page thread in the Indiana forum on the new Lake County system. It is indeed Phase 2, with the exception of Shereville, and one other small community. You will need a Phase 2 scanner.

That would be my mistake, thanks for correcting me :). I guess that's what I get for completely trusting that the database is completely accurate for a brand new system. I usually at least try to check out the local state discussion forums to verify some details, but failed to do so this time around.

So my Pro 652 will not work with the new radio system, or should I wait till they post the entire system with all of the updates? When i import the system from Radio Reference I can monitor the control channel and it get a lot of noise that sounds like data but nothing comes over the talk groups.

Your 652 will not work with Lake County, with the exception of Southcom. Southcom will adopt the new system sometime in 2016.

Moderator: This thread would have been better placed in the Indiana group
