pro-83 charg?

I bought a 6v adapter for the pro-83, and i have 2 AA batteries in there just the regular kind and when i turn my scanner off it says charg does anybody elses do that? or no why it is doing that?

it was set to alkaline and i did it over again and it still says charg?

Darn, if that's not it, I'm lost. I have not gotten an adapter yet, and probably wont. I use 2000 Mah Nimh, rechargable batts. I'm suprised no one else hasn't offered any help.

You'll find most of the PRO-83 discussion over on the Radio Shack Scanners forum on this board.

It looks like a software bug. Mine did the same thing and displayed charge even though I confirmed the switch was in the alkaline position.

From the PRO-83 manual, page 9:

"If you connect an external power source to the
scanner with ALKALINE/RECHARGEABLE set to
ALKALINE, CHArg appears but the scanner
does NOT charge the batteries. This is because
the scanner's microprocessor unit does not
recognize the switch position when you
incorrectly connect an external power source.
Make sure that you use the correct batteries and
set ALKALINE/RECHARGEABLE to the correct
position when you connect an external power
source."

hey thanks alot for the help i guess i can leave the adapter in as long as it's not charging them
