I've heard much about how the lettering rubs off the keys of the Bearcat 246-T and yet the lettering on my Pro-83 keys is as good as new after some very heavy usage. Seems strange that this inexpensive, little scanner seems to be much more durable in this area than it's much more expensive cousin. Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm sure after some hard use the older scanners' letters might rub off, haven't had it yet on my PRO-93. :)

Consider the fact that they are different material. The 246's keypad is solid rubber while the 83's keypad is transparent, or translucent, at least.

You can't expect different materials to react the same way.

I have [ now dont laugh] a PRO 2042 base, and the buttons look and function as well as the day I bought it.

Why would we laugh - its a terrific scanner. Just wish they had made it with 20 banks instead of 10 so it would have 50 channels per bank vice 100!

That's the first I've heard of a 96 wearing. Mine still look new, and one is about 2 years old.
