Could someone tell me if I'm doing this right?

I put some rechargeable batteries (NiMH), in the yellow holder, and the manual
says to charge batteries with a DC adapter I must use a
9V, 300 mA DC adapter, well...I bought the
9V/300mA AC-to-DC Power Adapter with Adaptaplug "B". The manual says you can use the
scanner while charging, but every time I plug the adapter into the scanner,
it turns off.

Is this normal?
Do I have the right adapter?

Also...shouldn't the power adapter power the scanner without batteries?

Is the tip set as positive????? If the tip is negative it won't work.
Otherwise yes,yes,yes. ;)

If the scanner is turned on when you plug it in, it will shut off. Simple to fix, just turn it off and right back on.

It works now, since I had the plug on wrong, but before that, what you
said didn't work for me. The scanner wouldn't work at all, while plugged in.

Thanks for the help!

Old Thread I know, but I have a Pro-95 with the same ac adapter and plug from RS and it creates a loud hissing noise when a audio device is plugged in. I don't hear the noise if I am using the built in speaker though. Any ideas?

Likely your device. This is the output for the 95.

I have the same set up (scanner and ac). It works perfect in my workshop. I plug it in while in the shop and never had a problem with it. The batteries are always freshly charged. I just unplug it and take it with me if I have to run to the hardware store.

Not sure what you meant/suggesting by that. The audio output works fine and is clear as a bell, until you plug in the AC adapter. Then the terrible hissing and interference makes it sound terrible.

Hmm, wonder why this was needed in your previous "it creates a loud hissing noise when a audio device is plugged in".

Does it still do the hissing noise when audio device is not plugged in? If so, replace the AC adapter. If not then find the problem using the schematic or maybe it could be the audio device itself.

Sorry. I just noticed the mistake. Sounds always comes out from the built in speaker fine. Sounds comes out of the headphone jack fine when running off the batteries (black battery cage/non-rechargeable) but when I plug in the AC adapter then the audio coming from the headphone jack has a loud hissing noise.

Anyone have any suggestions for the problem explained in the above post???

I would just order the original AC adapter instead of using the generic RS adapter if I could find one. But i searched online and checked the parts list for the Pro-95 and can't find so much as a part number for the item.

Thats because the Pro-95 did not come with an AC adapter. Use the 273-0027 9v 300mA adapter with the "C" tip.

Here is what the manuel says: You can power the scanner using a 9V, 300 mA AC adapter and a size B Adaptaplug (neither supplied). Both are available at your local RadioShack store.

That's the one I have purchased from a Radio Shack store. But I still have the hissing issue. :(

Does the audio device you plug into the earphone jack have a stereo plug? If it does you may want to try making the connection with a mono plug because the manual says “you can plug an optional earphone or mono headphones into the jack”.

I am dumb and you are right, or at least I think so. I tried plugging the cable in only partially in order to not make full contact with the stereo connection and what do you know...crystal clear audio. Thank you for your help. Now I need to go buy a mono cable.

I tried with the pigtail from the 20-047 and it gets some strange popping and hissing still. Not near what happens when the stereo cable is plugged in all the way.

If I do it with the stereo cable not completely inserted I get crystal clear audio.
