Good Day All,

I have had my Pro-95 for about a year now and am trying to get deeper into its functions.

Can anyone give me hints, tips, suggestions on how to use the Trunking(Dual-Trunking) that is available?

Thanks so much,

Brook

Well my friend, the Dual-Trunking feature lets you listen to EDACS and Motorola systems. One tip for you is if you havent listened to EDACS before, in my expirience, you need to be closer to the transmitter site than with Motorola systems. The coverage is somewhat fringe. I remeber someone explained it to me why, but I forget. An outdoor antenna will really help receoving EDACS systems. :)

I have a PRO-93, which is the predessesor of the 95. With the PRO-93, if you want to listen to a peticular talk group, you need to wait until the scanner stops on it in scan mode, then select it. I assume this is how it is on the PRO-95 too. On the PRO-96 though they fixed this little inconvienence.

Hope this helps,
Colin :D

KCChiefs9690 -- thank you very much for the reply..

Like I said I am very new to this or at least getting into the depths of my Pro-95. What are the EDACS and Motorola systems?

The pro-95 has two modes, open and closed.

In open mode the scanner will stop on any talkgroup that has traffic. In closed mode the scanner will only stop on the talkgroups that you have specifically programmed into the radio to listen to.

(I kinda feel like Phil here .. "A roadblock is a task that only one person can perform ... " :) )

e_beard, you really need to purchase a programming cable for your 95 because it makes such short work of re-programming the radio.

Motorola systems are trunked radio systems that incorperate TALK GROUPS. Say all the the Chicago police officers on the east side want to be able to talk to each other. They will all be assigned a specific TALK GROUP. A Motorola system can have MANY MANY talk groups. By the way, trunking is a system that automatically assigns a frequency to a user trying to transmit. This lets all city services share the same set of frequencies. This eliminates having tons and tons of freqs for every different city agency.

EDACS systems are a little different. They have a different method of grouping users. These are mostly used by public utilities and small cities because the Motorola systems have better emergency features and signalling. See you manual and look under trunking. They will have a very good explanation of both EDACS and Motorola systems. If you lost your manual check out www.radioshack.com

Don't worry. It will become easier and you will get more "in to it" as you learn about it. Also, If you want pick up a copy of POLICE CALL at your local radioshack. They have an exellent explanation of trunking and radio comms.

Hope all this helps,
Colin :D :D
