• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Adding in my obligatory "monitoring for further" so I can figure this out too... also, I feel your pain with lockdown keys. Should be common practice for agencies/shops to break the key before declaring the equipment surplus.

I have working tools now to remove the ASK. Will probably be a little while though until I can set things up hardware wise. We are having a mini blizzard and I don't really like climbing around in the trunk of my car getting covered in snow, and don't really feel like assembling a whole dual remote O5 setup indoors either. Unfortunately it is seeming like it is not as easy as force-enabling the dual radio field in CPS. Upon uploading the codeplug to my 'primary' radio, and powering up the radio, it does not show an alias on the screen, or give me any indication of an error of a missing second radio. I will see if I can torture it into compliance in some way.

Weather is good and I will mess with it today. However, it is seeming like it will not work and I will probably hook up an O3 or W3 head to the second radio. Even though it seems like I can trick it in the software- the modified codeplug either doesn’t properly upload to the radio. Or if it is, the radio is just ignoring it.

Looks like they were planning it in 2006… I wonder if work on that started before they decided on making a dual band APX. 1735489755199.png

Dual Control Head was a feature that was implemented. It allowed two heads to be connected to a single radio though (think front, rear), not two radios to one head. I don't recall the limitations but nowadays, APX mobiles can have have up to 4 heads simultaneously.

I don't have any guidance on your quest unfortunately. I believe others have tried in the past but without success. Seemed to stop when APX came out. Best of luck!
