When i attempt to initialize it turn it on wait for welcome to dual trunking to appear press "0" then "1" the second i push "0" the display blanks out if i continue and press "1" nothing happens it just continues to scan as if i did nothing . I tried resetting it no joy . Tried on fresh battery's no joy. Tried on house power no joy. ideas ? Left it unplugged for over a week even that didnt help ! ideas ??

Try pressing 0 and then 5. It should show EPROM TEST Mode and then Programming on the bottom line. Give it about 20 seconds and the screen should change to read "EPROM OK!" on the top line.
The 2nd and 3rd lines should read "Please power off then on". When you do power off and back on, you should see it say "Initializing Please wait" at which time it will be reset to all blank.

My guess is it may say something like EPROM FAIL or something along those lines if there is trouble with the logic board.

Mine also blanks the display as soon as I hit the first 0 but I quickly hit the next number (0 or 5) and it will do what it should and also bring the display back telling you what it is doing.
Try the 0 and 5 and see what it says after 20 seconds or so.

Here is a link to some of the power on keystrokes. http://forums.radioreference.com/radio-shack-scanners/7477-b-pro-95-startup-keys-b.html

0 and 6 seems to be a more thorough EPROM test as mine also said "Verifying" on the bottom line. I don't recall seeing that with the 0 and 5 test.

Maybe one of them will do a better reset and get you going or at least tell you something has failed.

Scanner Reset
If the scanner's display locks up or does not work properly after you connect a power source, you might need to reset or initialize it. If you have problems with the scanner, first try to reset it to retain the memory.

To Reset the scanner, turn off the scanner then turn it back on. Insert a pointed object, such as a straightened paper clip, into the reset opening above and to the right of the power jack on the side of the scanner. Then gently press and release the reset button inside the opening.

Warning: Initializing the scanner will clear all channel memories and reverts it the state it was in right out of the box.

To Initialize the scanner, turn off the scanner then turn it back on. Press 0 then 1 when the welcome screen appears. Initializing Please Wait appears for about 2 seconds. Do not turn off the scanner while it is initializing. The display should then show M000 on the top line and Bank 0 CH 00.

Still nothing .. It was working fine a few months ago but no just does not want to play ball odd thing is it stopped trunking too the frequencies are all there it just refuses to trunk conventional still works fine ... I carry it in my van and am always hitting the buttons so i am sure that's how it got screwed up there .. I just ordered a programming cable i would think that should solve the refusing to initialize problem ? I hope anyway .

I wonder if there is a stuck key? Or a key not making contact.
That's the only other thing I can think of.

Hopefully you can at least wipe it and reprogram it via software!

Try and do a key test when it is scanning. Park it and try using all the numeric keys like you are going to add a frequency. That will at least confirm the keys are all working.

Good Luck!

Yep all the numeric keys work fine even programmed in some random stuff in a free bank no problem so the keypad seems well . I guess i will just have to wait for the cable and hope that fixes it ....
