I am thinking about getting the Pro-95 while it is on closeout. Is it worth getting or should I wait until the Pro-96 goes down in price? The 95 is attractive since you can program milair freqs etc. via the Win95 software and are able to open up those bands.

Right now I have a Pro-2045 and a Yupi MVT-7100 (Which has had a few issues lately). I also use my Icom W32 to scan sometimes also.

From what I've read on here, although you can open up the mil air band with the Win95 software, performance isn't that great.

On the other hand, for the bands in which it was designed, you'd be hard pressed to find a similar handheld with alpha tags and trunking at such a low price.

I almost took the plunge but decided I didn't really need it.

You might want to check out the Pro95 forum over on Yahoo Groups for more info, too.

At $130, that is a steal if you can find one. The only bad thing about it is non digital. I bought mine 2 years ago at $200. I've gone to two different Radio Shack, they don't have any more.

Grab one when you can!!!

Dont ever expect the price of the PRO-96 to drop down to $129.99. For all that the PRO-95 does and for only $129.99 you cant beat it. I was thinking about picking up another one since I sold mine when I got my PRO-96.

Go for it! But like oregontreehugger said, don't expect the milair part of it to be satisfactory. If you are thinking of getting one specifically for milair, look elsewhere. Otherwise, it is a fantastic scanner.

Well, I have my pro-2045 for milair, and the 7100 does good there also, so its not that important for that. The only time I would use it for milair is if I am out at the base shopping or something :)

I am new to this forum, however I do own a Pro-95. My BTC245 out proforms the 95, however, the 5 has expanded ham bands, allows you to use rechargeable and standard aa cells. The only way I would get rid of the 95, would be to trade it directly for a PRO-43. Mine was stolen along with my modified PRO-2006.

:D I say yes the Pro-95 is well worth the $130.00 price tag. Then programing with the win95 makes it extreamly simple. If I had an extra $130.00 I would buy one just to put up. Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a word: Yeah.

... I have one, now that it's on "closeout" , I may get another! No, its not the "perfect" scanner but for 129.00...you can't do much better. Ive had limited sucesss with the milair band. Splurge and get the 800Mhz ant.

I really don't think the 95 is worth $130 ANYMORE. You have a lot of better, more feature friendly, pager rejecting scanners out now.

I couldn't resist the price, I've had mine around 24 hours now and really like it. It is my first GRE-made scanner. The manual is unbelievably bad, but the Win95 program makes life easy! I may never bother to learn manual programming, it looks like a pain. Side by side with my BC245XLT, The 95 is more sensitive on VHF-hi, all other bands seem about equal, haven't tried Civil Air band yet. No intermod or birdie issues so far, but we'll have to see when I eventually hook it up to the discone or the Scantenna at my other place. We only have one trunked system in range of me, but it is a boring city services system, no public safety/emergency stuff on it, just dog catchers and stuff, but it tracks it with no problems, I like the CC only programming, that's sweet. The display is very nice for a handheld.

A very nice radio for under 150 bucks. I still love my BC245, but this radio has an edge over it with the alpha tags.

Just picked up one as well. Now I don't have to mount my old BCT7 in my car. This is a great scanner for $130!! Easy to setup & program.

Get one while you still can. You won't be sorry. Fortunately I have 2 other radios (Pro-60 and Icom IC-Q7A) that do milcom.

I have had my Pro-95 sence 9/04 and i love it it's a great scanner and for $129.99 price tag it makes it even better. So if your thinking about it go for it before they are all gone. :D
