Hello

I just received a (presumably) new Pro-96 from radio shack. On power up, it shows DSP F1.0. Is this the current version? I've seen many references to 1.3.

I was assuming that if I purchase a new scanner, it would be current.

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

1.0 is the version with the bug. SORRY! I would take it back and ask them to give you the bugless 1.3 version.

I think you hit a certain button when it is powering up. Thats how I do it on my -93. Not sure for the -96 though.

There is no DSP version 1.3!

The newest versions of the firmware for the radios will cause the screen to look like this when checked on startup:
Code:
  Version
CPU: F1.3
DSP-App:F1.2
DSP-Voc:F1.0
It is possible that the 'F' in the third line could be a 'V' but it is unlikely unless someone reloaded the downloadable version of the DSP-App firmware.

The boot is V1.0 and I think that's what he is reporting...

Thanks for the replies -- I did find the "3" key trick in the manual (pdf from RS actually -- I hate printed manuals)

I see exactly what was suggested above -- F1.3, F1.2, F1.0, for each item, respectively.

It appears I received a new unit, though seeing the "F1.0" on the startup screen scare(s/d) the heck out of me.

Thanks again

I have the first version model that I purchased back in Oct 2003 and it is still working perfectly for me. Nothing scary about it at all. Just that one little bug in the 40xxx tg's that is not a big deal for me anyhow.

Best scanner that I have ever had.

This is what I get at boot up
Version
CPU: F1.1
DSP-App:F1.2
DSP-Voc:F1.0

Pro 96 Upgrade

As I understand it, if the Pro 96 needs updating, all that needs to be done is to download the upgrade correct? There is no need to "send it in", correct?

I've read other posts which talk of sending the unit in. Have I read it wrong or is there another reason to send in the unit?

Incorrect. If you are only needing to update the DSP-App portion, you can do that via a download as described in your manual. The update everyone is referring to is the CPU firmware update which requires a trip to Ft. Worth for your scanner. However, you should refer to the Pro-96 "48xxx TG" Bug Systems and Pro-96 1.3 Upgrade - Myths Removed topics for details.

Thanks Lou. I guess I was just doing some wishful thinking.
You have an older radio, or a new one that doesn't look like the screen I posted above after pressing <3> on the Welcome Screen?

Mine says;

CPU: F1.2
DSP-App:F1.2
DSP-Voc:F1.0

That one will have the TG '48xxx reception bug', but not the L/O bug.

When I do the start up trick mine reads:

CPU: F1.2
DSP-App: U1.2
DSP-Voc: F1.0

So I made a trip to my local Radio Shack repair center to send it in for the update and was told there would be a $49.00 dollar programming fee, even though my radio is 5 months old???

I declined the repair and told them I would be contacting Fort Worth myself. Any thoughts on this and does anybody know who I would contact??

You're going to HAVE to send it through a dealer.

Tell them your scanner is not receiving these groups:

UCAN (Utah Communications Agency Network) TRS [Source: bkw]

47872 Park City Fire
47904 Park City Fire
47936 Summit Fire
47968 Summit SVC
48000 Summit S/O
48032 Park City PD
48064 Summit AC

(source: http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=13119 )

Then remind them that there is a one-year warranty on it and that it is not working as advertised and you want the problem fixed UNDER WARRANTY.

Thanks Joe.

I will take it to the R.S store where I bought it from.

Now that you mention those talkgroups I can honestly say that i have never heard them even though I have them programmed into my scanner. I tought it was just cause there were just too many hills in Summit County

If I bought a brand new Pro-96 from the Radio Shack website on Monday would it be up to date with the bugs etc?
