I just bought a pro-97 and is there a way when it is stuck on a specific frequency to see the group number instead of showing the tone? How do i make the backlight come one only when there is a transmission?

If it's showing a "tone" (I'll presume that means a CTCSS tone frequency), there's no "group number" to display. What are you interested in seeing?

No, the PRO-97 - like all other GRE scanners - has no provision for lighting the backlight based on open squelch. (GRE's PSR-500 family will let you set an "alert" for each "object", which can include backlight functions, but that's utterly different.)

The name of the group that the freq is in.

If you're referring to the PRO-97's "Bank Alpha/Text Tag"... no, there's no way to display that when displaying the CTCSS/DCS information for a conventional channel programmed to show CTCSS/DCS information. The only way to display the bank's alpha tag is to leave the channel set as "FM" - with no CTCSS or DCS setting.

PRO-97 bank alpha tag

The only way to display the bank's alpha tag is to leave the channel set as "FM" - with no CTCSS or DCS setting.
While this is true on the earlier scanners (PRO-92, etc), it is NOT true for the PRO-97. If you have a channel set to FM, the 4th line is blank. The only time you see the bank alpha tag is while it is scanning.

This was the first issue I encountered with the PRO-97. I love the fact that the bank alpha tag shows all the time on the PRO-93/PRO-95 and in FM mode on the PRO-92. It was a step backward to not provide this on the PRO-97.
