Have very few choices for purchasing a antenna in the anch. ak. area for my pro 97. Just whanted something a bit better than the original rubber duckie. Can anyone tell me if the radio shack VHF/Uhf high performance hand held scanner antenna # 20-034 says coverage, recieve only 27-50MHz VHF-Lo, 138-174MHz VHF-Hi 406-512MHz UHF and T-Band, 806-940MHz. Would this b a little bit better than the original that came with the scanner I,m new 2 this and confused!!!!! Thank,s for any help Bob g Anch. Ak.

This topic has been covered quite a bit I think but the antenna from R.S. that you are asking about is an improvement, however, if you REALLY want a super antenna for that radio get a Diamond RH77CA. It will double or more the reception on 25-50, 138-170 and 450-500 mhz. Not so hot on 700 and 800 mhz though. You can get them several places. One is Univervsal radio. (universal-radio.com) There are other dealers google it. Hope this helps.

Agreed. I have the RS "high performance" antenna and, while it's an improvement over the stock antenna, it really sucks on 800. The RH77, while not as good on 800 as the RS dedicated 800 antenna, is much better at wideband coverage. If most of your listening is in the 800 range, the RS 800 duck would be an even better choice since it's adequate for other freqencies above about 100 MHz also.
