Programing EDACS and Motorola

Hey everyone. I was hoping that one of you could help me out with programing edacs and motorola trunking into my pro-95 scanner. The main system that i am trying to program Consumers Energy, which is EDACS. But i would like to know how to do the motorola system as well. I'm having troubles with understanding what lcn is and what frequency that would be. Then theirs the "hex". I have not a clue what that is suppose to do. Then I'm not sure what to do with the talk groups. Are the talk groups suppose to be in order from lowest to highest or dose it really matter? then on top of that with the consumers energy what ones do i pick for the talkgroups. Im doing this all for the Cadillac, Mi, which is in Wexford County. Any help at will be very appreciated.

First off, if you program an EDACS system, you can't put anything else in that same bank.
The "LCN" is Logical Channel Order. You have to program all the frequencies (not just the control channels) in the order they are listed, in the corresponding channel numbers in the bank. (LCN 01 goes in channel 1 of the bank, & so on - channel 0 is left blank) Just program the frequencies for the tower closest to you. Don't worry about the hex numbers for the sites. It doesn't matter what order the talk groups go in, just put in the ones you want to listen to. You can use either the dec or AFS format, whichever is easiest to use, the scanner should convert it if necessary.

Thanks for the help, its nice to get it to work for once. Now i just got to figure out the Motorola system.

I think the Motorola systems are actually easier, IMHO. You only have to enter the control channels, & you can program multiple sites in the same bank, but it helps to separate each site with a non-trunked frequency. If you go into the "trunk" (talkgroup entry) side, & change the mode to "MO" or "ED", whichever is applicable, it will automatically enter that mode when you enter the frequencies.

You can mix & match a Motorola trunked system with non-trunked AM or FM frequencies. If you program an EDACS system, you cannot have anything else in that bank.

I got a few more questions. When i program a Motorola system, can i have AM, FM and Motorola all in the same back at the same time or do i have to pick just AM or FM to go with the Motorola system. My second question is, how many Motorola systems can i have in one bank? Lets say i wanted the Dow Chemical Company and Louchart Enterprises (800 MHz) system in midland county in the same bank, could i do that? Also could i put the AM and FM frequency's in the same bank to fill up space if i put the two Motorola systems in the same bank?

You can only program one system per bank. If the Motorola system you want to listen to has more than one site (like the MPSCS), you can program in several sites, separated by AM or FM non-trunked frequencies, because the talkgroups are shared amongst all the sites within that system. You are talking about 2 separate systems, which would have unique talkgroups & control channel data, so you can't put both of them in the same bank.
You will need to devote one bank to Dow Chemical & another bank to Louchart. You can then use other frequencies to fill the empty channels.

Thanks for the reply. That's what i was thinking bout i wanted to make sure. Now, Motorola channels don't have a lcn if i am understanding everything right, but do i still have to start on, lets say Bank 0 Channel 01 or can i start it off at Bank 0 Channel 00?

You can put the Motorola control channels in any channel you want. If it's a multi-site system (MPSCS), you just have to keep each site's control channels together. Otherwise, you can put them in 00 thru 02, or 33 thru 36, it doesn't matter.
