I'm a new 996XT owner and would like to isolate my Mpls. Fire Dept.(already in scan) to a separate scan mode. That is, put it in a Priority mode, Right? Can someone give me a step-by-step? Thank you

Wow, I've never seen this "Easier to read" version, this is closer to what I may need. I don't know if "priority" is the the correct option for what I'm looking to do. I don't know if my police and fire it scans thru is "Trunked" When scanning, the screen always says "Site 109" then under that, "ID: MPD" of MFD when a call comes in.. I'm wanting occasionally just hear the MFD call(fire) with the push of a button. I was thinking Priority is where that is, could be wrong.

Not sure exactly what you want.
If it's a trunked system just delete all the talkgroups you're not interested in and then you're left with the MFD ones.

I don't want to delete anything, just scan or separate MFD from MPD on a separate scan if I choose to hear MFD only. Right now they are both on one scan, Site 109 whatever that means. I didn't program it

Site 109 is probably the source of the transmissions (it will have a number of frequencies assigned to this system).
Just duplicate the system and assign it to a separate FL and delete all the talk groups you're not interested in.

site 109 is the system name, edit that system, add two groups for that system, assighn a different number for each group, put fire in one group and pd in the other group, upload back to the scanner, scan away.

I wouldn't know that, I didn't program it

You can duplicate systems and edit/name everything using the scanner but it's very cumbersome and convoluted.
It would really be worth your while to download the Sentinel software (it's free) and spend some time getting to know it. Using Sentinel will vastly improve your scanning experience.

Are you using the Sentinel software?

I would download Sentinel and learn to use it. It's actually very good and quite powerful and once you understand the underlying logic it's easy to use. I actually prefer Sentinel to the third party software you have to purchase.

Download Sentinel and then ask more questions here, you'll soon get the hang of it.

Mark's easier scanner manuals site also has instructions on using Sentinel.

You stop the scanner on a TG for that system, you press "E", you press "menu" till you go backwards to the list that has priority as one of the selections, press "E" and choose "ON", then press manual go back to the TG, press "E", scroll to "priority" and turn "ON, there will be a "P"next to the "TG", when they become active it will switch to that TG and override all others....Or put it in a seperate system by itself the TG, there is NO-FL in the 996xt.....
