BCD396T Question Band Plans & Motorola P25 Sites

I know my scanner has modified/updated band plan. When looking at a P25 Site with Proscan there is an option for Band Plan.
How do I know what to set it to?
If programmed via RR is that already set?

When programming P25 Sites and there are several frequencies for the area.
DO I select one System with the P25 Frequencies then add the frequencies OR Can I add all P25 frequencies into ONE System then add my talk groups?

It wold be interesting to see a "Tree" of how this should be configured or if someone could send me a file of how to set it up.

When setting up P25 via Proscan, once I select the proper frequencies then add the groups I want I get this error "Multiple Sites Selected for a Single Site Scanner" "Select Only One Site and Try Again". So I guess that means I need to set up multiple Systems with the frequencies (Which are termed "Site") then add what I want to listen to THEN create another P25 frequency group then add the same stuff I want to listen to then do the same with the other P25 frequencies (Sites?)

I guess that's one difference with the SDS200 is that you can have all P25 frequencies or sites all in one "Favorite" the all of the groups of things I want to monitor.

Sorry Still Trying to understand P25 & now the difference between both scanners.

Attached is currently what is on my 396t is this correct? The other jpg is setup by someone that helped me (it just seems redundant but that's probably due to my lack of understanding)....... Suggestions?

Many thanks for any help or link to a great resource!!!

It's hard to say without knowing precisely which system you are trying to program, but a true Project 25 system will require no separate bandplans; such as this system

However Motorola trunk systems that are NOT Project 25 and on VHF hi or UHF will need a bandplan, such as

There are still a few systems out there that have gone through a process known as rebanding. These systems are flagged as such in the database, and as long as your firmware is up to date, ProScan should download the necessary bandplans automatically. Such a system is here

It should be noted that the 396T can't handle anything that is marked Project 25 Phase II- such as

Also keep in mind that the 396T won't handle multiple sites per system. For such a system, you must duplicate your system settings and add the new site you want to use. Nor can the 396T handle DMR/MOTOTRBO, EDACS ProVoice or NXDN.

Wow....Glad I don't live in Md anymore!!! Guess I would have learned about it if I was still there!

Lots of great info and I appreciated it greatly.

Just to clarify "396T won't handle multiple sites per system" that means that I cannot put multiple control channels (Sites") into one group, correct?
So for each control group (still having problems with the lingo, A Site is the location with the frequencies that the talk groups use, correct?

Is my graphic Right????

Thanks again....wanna get this right!!

Only use the frequencies listed for a single site, and as already noted, you would need to duplicate the talkgroups in additional systems, in order to deal with more sites.

You cannot put the frequencies for two or more sites into one system. The scanner will only use the first one it can receive, and none of the additional frequencies would checked. So, initially, you would have a system, with all the talkgroups you want to monitor, in your home area, with a site containing the frequencies for the site closest to you. If there is another site in your county, or one within range in an adjacent county, you would create another system, again with the talkgroups duplicated, and using the frequencies for the site in that area. Carteret County has four VIPER sites in the county, so to cover all of them, you would need to have four separate systems to account for the individual sites. Talkgroups would likely be duplicated in all four systems.

Ok that answers my question, but just to reiterate my setup should look like this since there are 4 Talkgroups with all of the same channels I want to listen to under each different talkgroup?

But would it help IF the scanner is staying in the house that I ONLY listen to the talkgroup that is closest to me so there is less redundant scanning (lock out the further ones)?

The programming using ARC396 is not redundant. Carteret County NC uses 4 sites on the VIPER system. The 396T allows only one site per system. You need to set up 4 systems with all of the talkgroups with each system using one of the sites. You can select which site or sites you want to use by pressing 1 thru 4 on the keypad. It will be no different using ProScan. A band plan is not required with most P25 systems.

Wirenut620, Clemmons is in Forsyth County which has 2 sites on the VIPER system. You need to set up 2 systems with all of the talkgroups with each system using one of the sites.

Using the 996T and later scanners, you can set up a single system with multiple sites.

I am receiving a 396t tomorrow and this info is very helpful. Thank you!
Here is a link to the North Carolina VIPER system: North Carolina VIPER Trunking System, Varies, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies (radioreference.com) The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County system is a Motorola Type II 800 MHz rebanded system, not P25, which requires a custom 800 MHz rebanded band plan. That system uses only one site. Winston-Salem / Forsyth County Trunking System, Winston-Salem, North Carolina - Scanner Frequencies (radioreference.com) For the 396T you can also use FreeSCAN programming software which is FREE! Downloads - Sixspot Software Let me know if you need any help with programming.
