55 years ago I was 10. I thought the only things around then were transister radios & crystal sets. I hope I can be in a position to some day to be able to help newbies too.

Crystal radios, yes, and the first transistor radio, the Regency TR-1, came out in 1954,so it's 57 years old. Popular Electronics came out in October of that year, and that's what started me in electronics, although I had made my first "transistor radio" - a 1N34 diode with a single LC in front of it, feeding a 2N35 audio stage - in 1953. I really had no idea what I was doing, but it worked.

You know buddrousa, i think I did download this when I had my psr600 but never used it. Then I deleted it. That was a year ago. Im sorry to WP2MX & Highpockets for wasting thier time. I should have figured that out myself.

If you opened the file I attached a few posts back in Win500. Plug the cable into the computer and the other end into the PC/IF port on the scanner. Under the Scanner choice at the top click on the Upload to Scanner. If the cable driver was installed correctly you should see the progress of the upload, when it's complete you should be able to start scanning.

If so, then you can start to edit, add, or delete data in that file so you'll have what you want to listen to in your scanner. The file I sent was just a quick file to get you up and running and an example on how the data looks in Win500. If you make corrections always save you work.

Fingers crossed! :)

Outstanding highpockets. It all worked. It downloaded a little over 100 frequencies. I really appreciate all of your help. How do you save your work in this program?

If you make changes to the file, in the top left of the Win500 screen under File, use the save as command, and give the file a name. I use different names, this way if I make a mistake or want to go back to an older file, it's always there in the Win500 directory.

I hope you enjoy your scanner now. It's a pretty neat hobby! :D

Two options for you....

Option 1: Your friend hands you a list of frequencies for the next town. You could enter each in as conventional frequencies and assign them a separate scanning bank. Under the CONV tab, right-click and choose New Item at End. This adds a blank frequency to the list, in the default scanlist (#1). Enter in the particulars of the frequency (name, mode, LED color, etc.). If you wish to move it, just assign it to another scangroup. As previously suggested, frequently do a "Save" or "Save as..."

Option 2: Since you are a premium RR member, use the import feature of WIN500 to add frequencies. Use File > Web Import > RadioReference. You will have to choose between trunking and conventional frequencies here (but you can always come back and add more). The import feature will ask for your RadioReference login and password (whatever you used to pay for at RR). From there, it's a fairly straightforward process (see the WIN500 & PSR500 guides mentioned above). If you plan to visit other states or provinces, you could store them as separate scanlists or V-folders.

win500

I have another question. In win500 ive used the web imoprt thru RR. ive found the talk groups for lets say marquette Michigan. Ive gotten as far as clicking import and the next screen says to import an existing tsys, enter that tsys's object ID here. How do I know what the object ID is? and where do I find it. There is also a button that says save. If I click that, where does it save it too?

Don't worry about the TSYS object ID or the starting TGRP object (leave them as they are).
Change the "System Tag" to something for you to understand, like "MARQUETTE" etc.

The only choice you really have to make at that step is where to put the system. Choose the appropriate "Target Scan List." The best way to do that is to label the scanlists FIRST. Go to the General Settings tab and change the alpha labels for each scanlist. It's easier to do that before you load trunked systems from RR, so you'll know where to put them...

Don't let WIN500 or your PSR-500 drive you crazy........you'll get it. We've all been in your shoes once.

Jay, I labeled the scanlist. I downloaded what I wanted. hit import. renamed it. picked the scanlist. hit ok, and then clicked done. Now im lost. the only place I see what I downloaded is in the all objects tag. if I click TSYS objects and click the scanlist I chose, it says no TGRP objects defined for the current TSYS.

Not lost! "All Objects" tab, fourth from the left at the top? That's where it happens bud! Look down two lines at the top row of the working grid. See the "Scan List" header? Eighth header from the left.

Do the "ones you downloaded" have a row of "dashes" running across the column? "Double click" any where in the dashes. Did you see a "flash" of motion? Now that column is named "Scan List Map" and is alive. "Highlight" (select) a channel with "all dashes". Now move over to the far right of the screen.

Under "Details for multiple TGRP Objects" find "Scan Lists" with numbered boxes below. Click on a numbered box (Let's say 5). Go back and look at the "Scan List Map" Should see a 5? That channel is now in Scan List 5!

Not the right number? De-select over at the right! Want that channel in more than one Scan List? Select more boxes over at the right. Just like sorting mail.

Select the channels at the left, deal them to Scan Lists by clicking on boxes at the right. Hope I got these instructions correct, going back-and-forth between program and forum, lol.

PS: Standard Windows rules for multiple selections of channels are active.
