• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey Everyone,

I just purchased a G5 and have been reading that with the latest version of PPS programming software, that it's possible to import trunking system data as well as talk group info from Radio Reference, into the G5.

I can see the RR data is in CSV (Excel type) format. The G5 wants imported data in PPS format.

Granted, I might be attempting to program the G5 incorrectly...

Inside the PPS software, I am clicking on F them F1 (Import Profile). I am then asked to import aUNIPPS file. When I click select, a box pops up asking me to search and select a PPS format file.

Can someone please explain how one goes about importing the RR data into the G5?

Thanks in advance for your time and help!

Go into the groups setting. From there click on the import button on the top of the screen.

You can also add the sites when you go into the p25 trunking frequencies screen

Good Morning! Wow... that was the fastest reply. 3 min!

Ok, so I guess I just struggle.

Where are the GROUP SETTINGS and the IMPORT button? Which letter A-G should I be clicking on?

This is all new to me. I've been watching the help / programming videos and it's still confusing. BUT, I am trying to learn...

I've deleted my profile and am going to start anew.

One thing I noticed is that my G5 shows as G5B67BF-SXUCEN1401 (UHF C) and the closest I can find in the PPS software is G5B67BF-SXUCEN1400.

Hopefully, I am choosing the correct model in the PPS dragdown.

I then click on SELECT.

From there, what should I be doing?

From what I am reading it's NOT going to be as simple as importing RR data. Like a Home Patrol...

Is there a step-by-step for beginners anywhere? :)

Sincerely...thanks for your time and help.

Remember there are two files you need to copy to import from RR. One for the 'sites' and the other for the 'talk groups'. If your system is a large system (like VA STARS or Ohio MARC), I would edit the 'csv' files and delete unused items so you don't exceed the PPS limits. For the talk group file, I would recommend editing to take out any unwanted TG's.

You can edit the 'csv' file in Excel, just remember to save back as a text file so as not to lose the csv delimiters. If you have a good 'text editor' (something like Notepad++) it will edit the raw text data, but it is very cluttered.

I am going to ask an import question. I have tried to import data from two CSV files (site mainly) but when I click import it only gives me a new system. Has anyone figured out how to import into an existing system?
