Earlier today, the only readable signals (12:00A local to around 1:15P local Pacific Time, between 2000-2115 or so UTC) were VOA to Korea from Tinang on 9800 and Korean from Thailand on 9575 kHz; VOA in Kirundi on 11660 kHz (Vatican / Sta Maria De Galeria) and VOA in Hausa from Botswana (11830 & 11850 kHz) on 25 M as well. I didn't check the ham bands. 11765, NHK in Japanese to the Middle East was audible but not readable (2025 UTC).
That‘s quite a variety of catches. 🙂

Thanks. I forgot to add the receivers used, a Grundig G2 (off the whip) and Tecsun PL-398 (off the whip). Being in the NW US, Asia often comes in decently, but the transmissions from Southern Africa sometimes baffle me. they may come in when the rest of a band is mostly dead.

I'll take it, though. :)

Last night the airwaves were dead for me here. Couldn’t even get the usual boomers like 11780 or 15770.

On a whim, I was scanning the 17 meter band and came across these guys on 18.157.5 MHz.

I thought it was a contest - as all I was hearing was call signs - but I guess it’s a regular thing.

Just scanned 12 to 20 MHz. Wow, dead. Was able to listen to 1 station talking about global warming. Went back to 5 MHz to scroll up. Most of the usual is there. Did get what I think was a Japanese station on 6.105. Had to shut down at 7 MHz as my knee is banging hard tonight. Knee replacement isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Sucks I didn’t have a choice.

31 meters - Radio Taiwan International 9.885 MHz coming in 29 & 39. Transmitter 100 KW. Used some filtering to clarify the signal.
Distance: 6676.24 Air Miles from Central Massachusetts. (ICOM IC-705 and Chameleon CHA F-Loop 3.0 Plus antenna)

Was on last night for a li bit. Dead above 12 MHz to 20 MHz. Did pick up something oriental in 6 MHZ area. Hard to hear it. Not as active up to 12 MHz last night. 7 to 9 PM. I ordered a refurbished Microsoft surface tablet to hook up the LAN IQ to use SDR control software. Works ok on my pc. Turned out to be a dud so have to send it back. Won’t charge.

Last night was pretty good. No asian stations though. Allot of stations came in real strong. Scanned from 4MHz to 21MHz. Anyone get any lucky catches?

Last night WSM from Nashville came in at 5/5 bars on my Radio Solar here in northern Illinois. I usually check that as a reference and can't get it at all some nights but it was so strong yesterday I thought I was in another frequency.

Just a note to add. Back in 1985 my wife and I along with our new daughter left Chicago to return home to St. Louis. We were in our new 1985 Dodge Aries and were headed to my sisters house in Jefferson County just south of StL. We listened to 890am, at that time top 40 music (I believe) the whole 300+ miles to her house. Never changed stations once. Pretty cool I think.
